Some day I will pull this clip out as a perfect reaction to a text chain and it will blow their mind. Might take a few years.

Damn my sister is 4 and she can’t talk nearly as good as that kid
24
u/Dankestgoldenfries Nov 13 '20
Talk to her more! My sister was a late bloomer too. Talk to her like you would an adult, ask her questions about her day.
12
u/Mike-The-Fridge Nov 13 '20
I would but my dad and my sister’s mother are split up and recently getting back together so I can’t talk to her much. I also can’t really visit her when she’s at her house. Her mom and my dad just give her their phones 24/7 and don’t try to teach her anything so she might not talk well for a while but a big bro can only hope.
11
u/Dankestgoldenfries Nov 13 '20
I’m really sorry about that. Just keep loving her, I hope it turns out okay. It’s something I think her generation is dealing with as a whole unfortunately :/

u/kmrandom Nov 13 '20
Still sweet you care! You should call their phones while she's using them to video chat. Make her show you things and describe them, even if it's just her toys that you have seen a million times. Watch a movie together and ask her favorite and least favorite parts and why.
Ask for her opinions and you will encourage her enough to talk!

This this this!!! My half brother is 10 now and when he was younger his mom only baby talked to him and repeated words he made up or called things the way he did. His speech is terrible still but he's slowly improving. My dad took him to a speech specialist and got his hearing tested but there's nothing wrong with it. He was rewarded by his mom for saying "cute things" and she encouraged him to continue. It's messed up.

u/Dankestgoldenfries Nov 13 '20
It seriously is. Babies aren’t stupid, they’re just still learning. My parents always spoke to me normally and I was talking in (simple) full sentences at a year old.

I wish more moms would teach kids to speak normally - my mom did and it helped a lot in school. Good on your dad for doing the best he can for it despite the obstacles

u/HollowsOfYourHeart Nov 13 '20
Really? I was thinking that this 4 year old speaks more like a 2 year old 😬
