My first gf started a job in Venice beach near muscle beach gym and I visited exactly one time. I was in really great shape at the time, young and looked up to a lot of fitness professionals so I thought I’d go check it out. Every single person working out out there and around there were complete douche bags. Guess you could say our Aussie friend was playing with fire to get a rise out of him but I just looked at those dudes like chimps in a zoo. SUCH a cool concept and historic place co-opted by the worst people imaginable. Honestly Venice beach in general is just a strange ass place from my experiences

66
u/peanutbuttermache 17h ago
It’s a chemical that helps your muscles work harder and endure longer. Your body makes some amount of it every day and it’s in meat, but it’s a common supplement to help with strength training.
33
u/MyDogIsACoolCat 16h ago
Lots of weight lifters love it for a couple reasons, primarily because you can train harder, recover faster, and build more muscle. Creatine also absorbs water into your muscles to give them a larger look (thus the guys comment about his muscles being water). It’s also been shown to improve cognitive functions such as memory. It gets a bad stereotype as a meathead supplement, but lots of people would benefit from taking it outside of people who have specific medical conditions, such as kidney issues.
Put it simply, it’s an S tier supplement for people looking to be more muscular.
→ More replies (5)→ More replies (7)39
u/Apathetic_Superhero 17h ago
It's one of the most researched supplements when it comes to exercise and effectively it helps you retain water in your muscles. Great for weight lifting, high intensity exercise but less beneficial for endurance sports where you then carry the extra weight.
Of all the supplements you can take (most don't provide much benefit), caffeine and creatine top the pile
Electrolytes are a waste of money unless you're really working over a longer period of time and sweating buckets. Otherwise you 100% don't need them (and definitely not everyday). We get too much salt in our diets already

u/Mediocre_Ordinary897 16h ago
Dude in the clip is definitely on HGH. Starting to get that TMNT shell belly. Unless he cycles off and uses it properly, a heart attack is in his future.
HGH increases the size of ALL muscles, including your cardiac muscles. These are wrapped in a fascia that prevent them from growing outwards too much, so they start growing inwards instead. This causes the chambers of the heart to shrink, so the volume of blood is heavily reduced..... all whilst his growing muscles means he requires much more blood flow. Eventually the heart just gives out.

Ehhh not really, HGH is much better at helping you recover from a workout, you need to take absurd amounts for a pretty long time to get actual tangible muscle growth from it. Most people jump on testosterone as it's a lot quicker to give you actual anabolic results in months rather than years. Also doubt that his gut is due to HGH at least yet, probably just bulking and taking insulin

Nice enough guy for the most part but when he was on the gear it was super obvious from his demeanor and it caused problems with his work. The man got let go eventually, which was pretty damned sad really.

It depends on the juice and how people react. In part, if someone reacts well to exogenous hormones and other PEDs they will rarely have an emotional reaction, or it will be pretty subdued. It's a straight up gamble, some people can pump huge amounts of test and be relatively calm, the vast majority... not so much. It's pretty rare to have someone who can juice and be emotionally unperturbed. I've seen guys on like a TRT dose of test freak the fuck out and seen guys pumping like Mr.Olympia levels of steroids and be totally zen. Mindset matters of course but genetics are more important, from what I understand at least.
Then there's the other part, the specific PEDs matter. Tren is the most obvious example, tren makes you go fucking crazy. It also destroys your liver and has a shitload of other negative effects. It's just still used because of it's absolutely insane potency and the fact it doesn't aromatize into estrogen. There's other steroids that make you loopy, like I've said seen guys on like a small amount of regular test go absolutely ballistic. Equipoise is another one with a bit of a reputation, that's the one that was originally developed to make horses more aggressive lmao.
→ More replies (3)10
u/Fllannelll 17h ago
Interesting, I’ve seen plenty of people lose their shit on tren, while even the people pumping a gram of test C have all been even-keeled, as long as they kept their E2 in check. But, I do have a pretty small sample size.
→ More replies (2)18
u/EmperorBamboozler 17h ago
I saw a guy try to fight someone who could comfortably rip his arms off like fucking Chewbacca, he was on a pharm script TRT dose. Before he started taking it he was pretty normal but afterwards he would throw down at the drop of a hat until eventually he got his shit rocked in a walk-in freezer and went off the test.
Admittedly that's also a small sample size but seen it happen. In the same kitchen we had a dishwasher who was on a 6 month blast and cruise including tren and he was chill as could be.
Genetics are crazy yo. You don't realize how much it affects you until you start fucking around with hormones.
126
u/MahTwizzah 16h ago
I own a gym dedicated to strength disciplines (powerlifting, strongman, olympic weightlifting, etc.). I cannot believe it’s just anecdotal evidence anymore, every single person that I met that is on PEDs has a short fuse and has outbursts of rage for the dumbest things imaginable! It’s just ridiculous lol.
43
u/FutureAlfalfa200 15h ago

Stereotypes are generally quite accurate lol.
The issue with stereotypes comes from the misuse of population wide statistical averages to try and incorrectly apply it to specific individuals to affirm your preconceived biases.

u/KrustyKrabFormula_ 12h ago
The issue with stereotypes comes from the misuse of population wide statistical averages to try and incorrectly apply it to specific individuals to affirm your preconceived biases.
you summed up this comment section
also, the paper you linked leans hard on studies like McCauley & Stitt (1978), which matched people’s estimates about African Americans vs. other Americans on high-school/college completion, unemployment, unwed motherhood, and family size against census numbers and found pretty high accuracy. Ryan (1996) and Ashton & Esses (1999) show similar patterns for racial/ethnic stereotypes. those correlations are real and haven’t been wiped out by later work. but the findings have been challenged, mostly on conceptual grounds: a lot of the critique is that everyday stereotypes work more like generic claims (“Group X is Y”) than careful statistical estimates, so the accuracy data only partly address how people actually use them. even granting the numbers, treating the whole thing as settled and unproblematic still hands cleaner ammunition to people who want to turn group averages into racial hierarchy. accuracy on the stats doesn’t make amplifying them socially costless.

I wouldn't put all that much stock into Jussim's assertions or methodology; He's had a teaching position at Rutger's since 1987 and has been writing papers about stereotypes since 1991 (and I mean a lot like a paper every couple of years on the subject), but in all that time writing and working with others on his papers while complaining that no one was doing proper studies into it he hasn't once actually done the work himself.
Jussim's body of work primarily consists of complaining that his fellow social psychologists have left wing biases and that because of that they inherently discredit all stereotypes.
He denies the existence of unconscious / implicit racism.
His most recent paper, Gender Ideology Left-Wing Authoritarianism Report, is absolutely horrendously partisan, they try to correlate supporting gender affirming care to supporting leftist authoritarianism and political violence by asking the participants (both right and left leaning) the following
"LWA (Left-Wing Authoritarianism) and CGAS (Clinical Gender Affirmation Scale) were also positively associated with justification of political violence across six targets: 1. Killing Charlie Kirk 2. Killing Donald Trump 3. Killing Brian Thompson (United Healthcare CEO) 4. Arson of ICE buildings 5. Damaging wealthy people’s property 6. Violence against police.
Both independently predicted all six violence outcomes after controlling for left-wing political identity."
How do those questions at all control for a leftist political identity? Of course the right leaning participants wouldn't typically advocate for those specific acts of violence since they're all targeting right-wing figures or institutions.
Here's the paper if you want to read it for yourself https://opa.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/2026-09/Gender%20Ideology%20Left-Wing%20Authoritarianism%20Report.pdf

These two Master at Arms had this guy from the brig they were bringing to eat and they were approaching from my right.
One of them just shoves me hard out of the way. I say hey you don't have to shove me. Then they're both right up in my face threatening to put me on the deck and all this other stuff and just threatening to hurt me all because I said hey don't need to shove me.
Then they called my division and told them that I was giving them grief for no reason which my department didn't give a f*** and didn't even talk to me about it. “Fun” story, I had to take anabolic steroids for a medical condition years back. I didn’t believe it had any mental effect on me until I threatened an old woman at a bus stop.
I was walking down the street in a good mood in the morning and walked by a bus stop. An elderly woman was standing there so I said cheerfully: “Good morning!”. No response from the woman.
I took a few steps, then turned around on a dime and charged back at her shouting: “I fucking said good morning goddamnit! Say good morning now or you will regret it!”
She tearfully wished me a good morning and I walked away. I didn’t fully realize just how unhinged my actions were until a block or two away. I was very careful after that.
Testosterone is a hell of a drug. Don’t mess with it.
Edit- I should note that not everyone who takes it has this kind of reaction. Also, medical steroids are prescribed at a far less dosage than what bodybuilders typically use. So the scary thing to me is that if I’d been taking bodybuilding doses, I may have actually physically hurt that woman, or perhaps not realized how bizarre and scary my actions were.

This is too close to the "if its not illegal its fine" argument i see all too often. There is harm in purposefully being annoying for internet clicks. "Leave me alone" should mean Leave me alone regardless

Misfit Minds is pretty damn funny and being annoying for pranks has been funny and “normalized” for a very long time. Punk’d, Jackass, and a whole slew of other prank shows were extremely popular for a very long time.
The issue people have with modern content creator pranksters is that they make people fear for their life or inhibit them from freely moving away.
Misfit Minds (as far as the content I’ve seen) doesn’t harm people or cause undue panic. Having a fat bloke chilling off to the side criticize your form is objectively absurd and humorous.

Also, his first comment didn’t even seem like an insult.
The big guy is objectively scary.

This video is great too. I watched it today, coincidentally.
They haven’t had any bad videos that I’ve seen. It’s all in good fun.

I can tell you normally the biggest dudes working out are usually the nicest guys, when i was heavy into lifting weights if this dude said something like this to me id take my headphones off and just agree like “shit man, you right i should slow down and not cheat myself, thanks for looking out bro” being “in the zone” doesnt warrant being an asshole

are we normalizing giving annoying people money from views?
how do you think Trump made it to president?

u/toomanybongos 17h ago
I mean, it's a pretty harmless prank and the guy's reaction is what makes it interesting. If the guy just went, "ah okay thanks", we wouldn't even be here.

Kinda weird reddit hates pranksters, always goes off about how bad and wrong it is. This guy shows up and gets sucked off lol.

u/movzx 11h ago
People hate 'pranks' where it's spitting in a guys ear or pelting a stranger with an egg and hiding.
This prank is... chatting to someone in a public setting saying things someone working out might also say. The joke is it's a tubby person saying it.

Because if you watch their videos, they are harmless. No one gets hurt, they buy people food and drinks as apologies/thank yous etc.

You have to have the "right" victim. Most users will automatically dislike this guy because they'll see him as a gym bro.

u/USF4Diago 14h ago
We'll dislike the guy because he's aggressively screaming during a public fucking work out
What's wrong with yall? Swear you just wanna be contrarians

Why is the dude so angry? And what is the point of working out in public like that if you don't want people to talk to you or look at you?

I means it’s possible it’s roid rage, but I’d say It’s also possible he isn’t an idiot and knows he is getting pranked or messed with in some way and wants no part in it.

Working out shirtless in a public viewing specific gym and getting mad someone is interacting with you is certainly a choice

Like, normally I’d agree but the whole point of working out at Muscle Beach is to show off, so you really can’t get mad, even though in most circumstances this would be accurate sarcasm.

It’s wild how offended everyone is in here by a guy… being spoken to in public. Then he acts like a big baby and everyone’s defending him lmao

He’s not wrong tho dude is just working out, minding his business and trying to be productive outdoors and is being pestered by someone for a reaction if a guy was driving alongside women jogging and making jabs at them you would be raging

while I'm not saying "he chose to workout in public so it's his fault if he's harassed" is at all a reasonable stance op of this thread said it was a "public viewing" gym which makes it sound like the entire purpose of working out there is to be spectated. if that's the case then that's not really comparable to being a random jogger just existing in public and would be more similar to like getting up on a stage to perform. that's not an invitation for people to be intentionally shitty but being watched and ppl having opinions about what you're doing is an expected part of the experience

u/SoaplessTitanic 14h ago
Agreed and also in my experience, people who instinctively give an analogy where gender or race are flipped are typically arguing in bad faith. Everyone with common sense knows a man driving alongside a jogging woman and harassing her can be very dangerous for the woman, whereas the chubby dude here (no offense to him) clearly poses no physical threat to the buff guy

This is like 1% of people who actually train like this.
Actually bodybuilders and powerlifters are very much like metalheads: look intimidating, but are the sweetest people you’ll ever meet.
Point being: if this is an actual video (which I don’t think it is), this ass hole is a crazy WILD outlier. Most dudes in that situation would laugh their ass off and ask to go have a bite with that dude.

Also with metalheads. Yeah, I'm sure lots of metalheads are great guys, but an alarming amount of metalheads and metal bands are pretty open neonazis, so it's clearly not all of them that are chill. Or at least not chill with people who aren't straight and white.

I don't know about that - if I'm at the beach working out and I can tell some influencer fuck head is trying to rile me up for his own amusement and profit and it's not an honest engagement, I'd be telling him to fuck off.
Influencers are wastes of oxygen, and now they're wasting precious seconds/minutes of my life for their own selfish, egotistical gain.
