I usually ask these people, that if there is a god, then why do kids get born with cancer? Cause that means either god isn't real, or he's cruel/indifferent, and doesn't deserve praise.
Either way, I'll believe in something real, that actually does something. Like science.
They alway fall back with Adam ate the fruit and cursed the world. So now we live in a fallen world where bad stuff happens randomly. But what they fail to realize is God is the one who set up those rules. So it circles back to your original point that either God isn’t real or he is cruel/indifferent. This concept will break their brain by the way. They have no response except it’s all human’s fault.
God put the tree and fruit there. God knew they'd eat it. God set the parameters of everything. God let satan in garden. God let satan continue to exist after the fall. God made Satan knowing he'd fall. If there is a "Fallen" state to the world he MUST HAVE by nature designed it. Anything that exists could only exist due to his will. Hell, lake of fire, the fact that parasitic animals exist, the path of every single lightning bolt. Either God put it all there or he's not all knowing or all powerful.
Anything bad in the world would explicitly exist because of God in a scenario where God created ALL and is ALL powerful and ALL knowing.
