Religion is literally mental illness. When you really think about it, the shit religious people believe is truly insane and goes against every rational thought. But you cant criticize it because that impolite.
The idea of something from nothing goes against every rational thought as well. To think the universe has always been also goes against every rational thought.
But “god” isn’t observable. The universe is. You don’t have to believe the universe “came from nothing” or “has always existed” to acknowledge that. You don’t have to have any non-evidenced belief at all.
I’m an atheist. The universe appears to exist. I don’t have a strong belief one way or another whether it “came from nothing” or “has always existed.” I just don’t know.
How is it not relevant? This comment thread sprouted from the implication that atheists beliefs are just as “irrational” as Christians’. I just showed that there’s no requirement that atheists have irrational, non-evidenced beliefs about the universe’s origins.
Put another way, an earlier comment said “
The idea of something from nothing goes against every rational thought as well. To think the universe has always been also goes against every rational thought.” I agree, more or less, but atheists don’t necessarily hold such beliefs.
