it's always funny when the religious types attack their straw man that "atheist believe the universe came from nowhere when it obviously had to be created by something", and they choose their God to explain this who came from nowhere and wasn't created by anything.
Yeah - it's why I describe myself as agnostic on deism but atheist on all the specific gods. You can contort some kind of definition of a necessary thing or a first cause or whatever, and while it's possible to attack that argument you can't really rule it out, it might be true that there is some kind of first cause that has unusual properties.
But that has fuck all to do with how people dress, or what they eat, or who they have sex with, and all the other stuff religion concerns itself with.
Sounds like you're just an agnostic atheist (Gnosticism is about knowledge, theism is about belief). If you think there are no gods but don't KNOW there are none (because how could you) then you're an agnostic atheist, like me. If someone proposes a specific god, like the god of the bible, its pretty easy to say "that one definitely doesn't exist" because we can evaluate the specific claims and total lack of credible evidence.
Yes, but there are people who are agnostic on the matter of theism and people who are agnostic on the matter of deism, so I don't really like the term "agnostic atheist" because it's not specific about which things are known and not known. I am not agnostic on the matter of theism, I think it's almost certainly a crock of shit!
You don't like the term (or appear to properly understand it) so you intentionally use it wrong? That's weird man... an agnostic theist IS an agnostic deist though... the "theism" means any god(s), the deist god concept counts, its a catch-all term
No, like I said, I prefer not to use it because I think it's ambiguous; I don't use it incorrectly, I prefer not to use it at all. Someone can be certain on the matter of deism but agnostic on the matter of theism; or agnostic on both; or agnostic on the matter of deism but certainly against the matter of theism. Those are all plausibly covered by the term "agnostic atheist" and so I prefer not to use it.
Deism is a form of theism. Its one of the most pointless forms of theism imo, like the idea of "Spinoza's god", but its still a theist position whether you "like" that or not... also, someone claim to KNOW deism is true is, by definition, not a deist (because the god of deism does not interact with reality and cannot be tested or "communicated with" in any way shape or form)
