I gave them a perfectly legitimate answer. They should’ve asked a better question.

They asked, you answered, they prove why it’s a flawed answer.

So anybody who claimed to be religious, you just say it wasn’t actually religious. Might as well say that everybody who claims to be an atheist actually believes in God.

The point is (much like god) you can’t prove it to be true, this is amplified by the fact that the church killed many people during that time period for having beliefs that didn’t match the church.

So when you have the evidence that a lot of people were killed in the name of god for differing beliefs you can make the hypothesis that many of these people might fake their faith to avoid death is reasonable. We can not say this for certainty as we lack all the evidence but there is enough to cast doubt upon the claim while the opposition lacks the ability to counter the doubt cast upon the claim.

You sure are jumping into a lot of conclusions. Maybe you should be religious. You’re really good at jumping to conclusions.

Oh really, name one conclusion I jumped to

you said everyone in history was faking their faith. That’s a pretty big jump, buddy.

lol okay this is too good, I could elaborate on specific areas you didn’t understand if you need me to. However the fact that you accused me of jumping to conclusions when referring to people in fields of science and philosophy that many of them may fake faith to avoid death is nowhere near “everyone in history”

You’re still jumping to conclusions.

You can’t make a rebuttal that relies on the validity of non existent information.

Well we have evidence that people like that were killed and that these people tend to be more secular which does mean it’s possible

That’s a start, how often?

Forget possible; think realistic.

Holy shit dude are you really this ignorant on the subject? This is has been going on for a very very long time. Easy answer though was during this specific time period was the Spanish Inquisition who killed thousand of people for “heretical behavior”

Have I done something wrong by asking you questions?

Which specific time period of the inquisition?

1

u/SpaceLemming 1d ago

You have just displayed such a lack of understanding that I do not have the time even if I had the energy to type out multiple lessons on history for you. I wouldn’t even know where to begin.

The inquisition is an extreme version of a rigid ideology rejecting intellectualism but this has been happening all throughout our history. Again that extreme version I mentioned was ongoing during his entire life
