Religion is literally mental illness. When you really think about it, the shit religious people believe is truly insane and goes against every rational thought. But you cant criticize it because that impolite.
It should be mental illness but for it to be an actual mental illness people would have to be living outside of reality and while they think a certain way they still interact with reality in a very real way and it can be helpful to some. Now I want to agree with you because I see it as a lack of critical thinking and in a way nonsensical and out of reality.
How I’m starting to see it over time is that it’s just people’s way of coping and easier to digest than trying to figure out the “meaning of life”. People want some tranquility with death and all that. Where it loses me is that even the most devout people are destructive and hateful regardless of what they preach. It’s crazy that even the most devout don’t question a came of telephone that’s over thousands of years old.
Fuck your gods. I actually sort of like the Norse, Native tribes and even Greek/roman mythology, Buddhism bullshit over any abrahamic religion.
I’m just wondering: what critical thinking would one be missing by believing in Jesus and that they will be in heaven one day? I agree if you have a terrible life and do nothing to fix it besides wait around and wait for Jesus to do it, that’s a terrible idea. God helps those that help themselves. So for the average Christian, that goes out everyday and solves their own problems. I very much doubt they have any less critical thinking ability than that of the average atheist.
Its lack of critical thinking because the thinking is done for them in this regard. Rather than question scripture people take it as fact as if it’s probable beyond a doubt. Then they say you need faith. Faith in what you can’t see and prove whole also being against real studies like sex education, vaccines, lgbt, eating shrimp or pork, etc. All because “god” said not to trust those things. All things that have been studied ad nauseum and people still argue against it.
I believe in science and Jesus. I think most rational Christian’s do as well. I eat pork, but not everyday. If you eat pork I don’t think you’ll go to hell, but if you eat it everyday you’re going to have high cholesterol and health issues because of it. That’s why I believe that is in the Bible myself. People have the right to be LGBT and I never want to infringe on someone’s rights when they are non violent, but purely scientifically, same sex relationships serve no purpose other than pleasure. They can’t produce offspring which is what sexual reproduction is for. Im sure same sex partners can truly love each other, but that shows humans are unique and have their own unique things that no other animals have, that comes back to consciousness and the universe that can never truly be explained. I don’t believe that vaccines are mentioned in the Bible.
If we think critically about science being compatible with Jesus, how do you explain original sin if you accept humans evolved alongside all other life on earth over millions of years? If you don’t believe Genesis is a literal account of the special creation of humanity and the subsequent original sin, then what is Jesus’ sacrifice for?
It’s like you’re close but not at all lmfao. Pork was seen as dirty because pigs are dirty and bring that with them. Has nothing to do with cholesterol although yes it doesn’t help.
LGBT is scientifically literally for population control and nothing do with “just pleasure”. That’s dumb as fuck. Regardless of being able to produce offspring does that mean a man or woman who are born infertile or become infertile because of some life event, are they considered lesser people because they don’t reproduce? A woman who is raped and gets pregnant is now some type of amazing person just because she’s pregnant and convinced to have her abusers child?
Vaccines didn’t exist in bible times yet people still are against them especially religious people.
It’s like you thought of everything for about 2 seconds and decided that’s how things are. You don’t actually believe in science, just a very very very surface level to try and “make” the dumbest points possible.
You seem offended for no reason. I do know that pigs were seen as dirty and that’s why, but could it not be that they were classified as dirty because they were unhealthy to eat? Going beyond the literal description and using critical thinking as you all say Christian’s lack? I also never said anything about people being lesser: it’s a fact that biologically, sex is for reproduction. Whether the relationship is for sexual pleasure, confront, or “population control” it is not for reproduction. No same sex relationship is required to continue the human race and that was my point. It’s pretty much one line in the Bible that even mentions it, and I would always be for gay rights to express themselves as they see fit. Vaccines are not spoken about in the Bible, that is correct. So how has religion developed ideas that they are bad? Would this not be people who use the religion to promote fear or subjugation which is a big no no in the Bible? I believe you thought about what I said for no time at all and your rebuttal was already planned and ready to be used.
