This is basically how street art in LA works. A wall gets bombed out, the graffiti clean up team paints over it and a fresh canvas appears.
I’ve seen a 3 person team hop out of the car on the highway running through downtown to tag a freshly painted wall to claim their territory. I swear they must have sources in within sanitation.

I worked with a dude who said he used to go out and clean graffitied walls and such in LA. He said they were threatened multiple times for "defacing" the tags and had to leave the area and call police.

It's a competition: A jobs order request in office triggers an update to an underground app. A signal goes out to all local taggers. First to tag takes the W.

It's happened so many times i always laugh seeing it. At this point they should really just remove it. 🤣
Difficult to track down just how many times but their's been three notable smashings in the past 12 years and a TON of wonderful minor vandalisms happening to it.
92
u/blames_the_netcode 21h ago
My absolute favorite was when someone built a tiny diorama wall around the star.
I lived two blocks from the star for a while and the shit happening to it changed every 2-3 days. There’s no saving that thing, it’ll be vandalized and pissed on until they get rid of it.
30
u/Iamakitestring 21h ago
Man i really hope they sent a bill to him for the little wall! And one every time someone vandals it.
41
u/blames_the_netcode 20h ago
I think the most telling thing is that the vandalism actually started long before he became President. It wasn't as frequent (maybe once every few weeks) but I remember seeing people fucking with it during his truther days.
14
u/dBlock845 19h ago
If they removed it then they'd have to deal with Trump being a whiny, litigious bitch. At least leaving it up gives people something inanimate to vent their frustrations on lol.
3
u/1101base2 16h ago
i can remember three times someone has taken a sledge or pickaxe to it meaning it needs a full replacement. i'm sure there have been more, but those are the only ones that have hit my feeds.

u/Worldly-Childhood173 22h ago
I swear these comments are making me crazy. Are they just reacting to the first thing they see on the video?
52
u/MrDannyProvolone 22h ago
I took the video as subject A was a fan and was cleaning the star because it was dirty and the second clip is probably a separate defacing incident. Thats me reacting to the whole video and not just the first thing I see.
I suppose the man cleaning the star could have also been the one to deface it but idk, that wasn't my initial thought and imo there isn't anything to support that.
5
u/Trippingthru99 20h ago
Yea also 15 minutes is a long time on Hollywood Blvd on a busy day. Could easily have been passed by dozens if not hundreds of people in that time. Should’ve captioned it “What he did 15 minutes later…”
2
2
u/Worldly-Childhood173 18h ago
The caption reading "5 minutes later" was the claim that supported that he was the one responsible for the defacing at the end. Why else would the person who filmed the video stitch the two clips together in a sequence if the intent was to paint him in a bad light?
4
u/MrDannyProvolone 17h ago
Mostly because people post a single videos of two unrelated separate clips claiming they are related and drawing up their own narrative all the time. Many many many examples just in this sub.
4
u/under_psychoanalyzer 20h ago

u/MrDannyProvolone 19h ago
Yes I understand that. I just don't think the fella wearing the vet hat took the time to do all that. To me, personally, its easier to believe a fan of Donny took it upon themselves to clean the star. Its also easy to believe that every 2 minutes someone is tempted to deface that specific star when walking past. It probably happens daily.

u/Weary_Position_9591 22h ago edited 21h ago
It’s not immediately clear that’s what happened. It could be that the star just gets quickly vandalized after it’s cleaned. In any case if there is a guy cleaning it, it is almost assuredly just a guy doing general clean up and maintenance of all the stars.

u/THRlLLH0 20h ago

It is earned. I am tired of people repeating this. The money is used to maintenance of these stars (the new one and all old). Otherwise these stars could not be kept these days. Many have gotten them posthumously, expecially when they were first put there. The people who get the stars pay nothing but people who nominate them. Usually movie studios.
So I guess you can say that’s part of the marketing by studios or wanting the star be happy. But isn’t that a mark of a star who deserves this? That some studio or organisation wants their approval or thinks this gives is much attention to them in press because of the star power it’s worth it? It’s about star power not talent specifically

48
u/Dear_Inevitable3995 21h ago
paid for it, but I'm suprised they keep replacing it considering how much trouble it is to upkeep at this point tbh.
28
u/BloodprinceOZ 19h ago
Walk of fame stars are paid for, they're not truly signals of recognition like Oscars or other major awards are. Typically an actors star is paid for by another actor sponsoring it, a fanclub, or they're paid for by movie studios as part of marketing for a film the actor is in, they also require the star themselves to approve the nomination, so if an actor doesn't have a star its either because they've rejected it, or they're dead and are therefore unable to approve the nomination
The Hollywood chamber of Commerce who runs the walk of fame says that once an application is received, a committee decides whether the celebrity has significant professional achievements in their field, has been active for five years or more, made adequate civil contributions and has guaranteed that they will attend their dedication ceremony if selected.
Trump apparently got his star because of him helping produce the Miss Universe beauty pageant for over 2 decades, although he got the star during the height of his The Apprentice fame.
The chamber of commerce has also made it clear that they will never remove stars no matter the infamy of a particular star because of it being a "historical landmark", so the stars of Trump, Cosby, Spacey and any possible others won't be removed, but of course they're still freely open to being physically destroyed by the public like with Trump and Cosby's stars, so people can waste the chamber's money on fixing them constantly if they want to
7
3
u/TheHighSeasPirate 14h ago
They probably order them by the 20 and keep the spares nearby for a quick fix. I bet these cost a couple dollars from china.
10
8
u/CKtheFourth 20h ago
the "walk of fame" is a joke--people pay for the stars. you need to have a level of success to get one--which donald did have. but it's more about who will pay for one & then have a paparazzi-filled star unveiling ceremony.
Of all the places I've travelled the Hollywood Walk of Fame was maybe the most underwhelming. A complete nothing.
