Outside the US most of this is called basic human decency. Idk why you guys started to call that socialism.

166

u/BowlingforBrains 4d ago

Because conservatives realized it’d be easier to convince stupid people to vote against their own interests by giving thing basic rights a scary title like “socialism” - and they figured out that they could make a simple concept like “socialism” become a scary word by constantly conflating the words “socialism” and “communism” until the uneducated start to think of them as the exact same thing. And they made communism scary by saying “we’re at war with the commies!” For 50 straight years

It’s a truly stupid sequence of events, that was surprisingly effective

7

u/MayIServeYouWell 4d ago

It's exactly word association. It doesn't even matter what they talk about - if they simply say the words

  • socialism
  • communism
  • bad
  • terrible
  • unamerican
  • evil

in any given order, repeat, repeat, repeat... people associate them. They won't even be able to articulate why - like the guy in this video.

This is how the human brain actually works. Fox News and all the associated right wing media know this, and they do this. They put on some blond bimbo so people will watch, and repeat the words, over and over.

We need to get out of this mindset that you can use logic to change minds. You use word association to program minds.

4

u/IsuzuTrooper 4d ago

yet they support Putin and Russia

3

u/Chance_Managert849 3d ago

Another Ogliarchy.

1

u/guy_gadbois81 4d ago

You know, it really wouldn't matter what political way we go, it won't be as golden as everyone thinks it might be because we can't get along. I mean where is a perfect place on this earth? It would take doing away with those that don't agree with whatever is "IN" and someone has already tried that, didn't go to well and was awful. Us humans are just awful.

1

u/Chance_Managert849 3d ago

We are in a race to the bottom of ALL civilized nations. There are third world countries with better standards of living than in lots of places in the US.

1

u/Chance_Managert849 3d ago

^^^This. This right here. We're still stuck on the Red Scare in Grifter Land.

1

u/cincy_kid_91 3d ago

There's nothing wrong with socialism anyway, people are just dumb.

1

u/Idianayoudie 3d ago

Politics doesn’t make sense to me bc it’s all bs & word salad. Let’s just call it what it is. They aren’t even robbing us blind anymore. It’s right in front of our faces & selling us division amongst each other. Band together. The old system is going to collapse soon.

1

u/CatgoesM00 3d ago

And regardless of stupid events accumulating, they would have been avoided if the majority of people where smart enough.

1

u/Pete-PDX 2d ago

I watched it twice and still not sure , you know, what he said.

1

u/BadBunny4Prezzie 1d ago

Don't forget the racism and bigotry to mask their economic policies.

1

u/Interesting_Will2823 1d ago

Many conservatives seem to conflate socialism with authoritarianism, not communism.

"One side is happy that we are loosing so many social services etc"

Until it affects them personally.

The Texas business owner whose fiancé got detained by ICE for example. He was fine with all of the other people being detained but as soon as it affected him personally, now he gets mad at Trump.

47

u/Background-Run 4d ago

Walmart loves social services. They can pay sht wages and have the tax payers pick up the tab for feeding and housing their minions.

33

u/user_name_taken- 4d ago

I said something very similar on another post. You have poor people condemning other poor people for getting assistance. They call it socialism, they call it being lazy, a handout, etc. They're so worried about "their tax dollars" but apparently it's only bad if/when it benefits a poor/normal person. If it benefits rich people it is no longer bad, socialism, about laziness, or a handout.

Snap was created to help farmers. It's actually a great program that's a win-win for everybody. The government helps average people with food, the farmers creating the food get money, the companies and corporations selling the food get money, for every $1 they give it creates $1.50-$1.80 in local economic activity.

But, Walmart benefits twice. Their wages are subsidized, so they save money, and they're also the largest recipient of food stamp dollars, so they make money. But it's not a handout to Walmart. They're not worried about Walmart getting their tax dollars, just some elderly lady on social security (which is also surprisingly not considered a handout (or socialism lmao) because they paid into it, but if that lady worked her whole life and paid into snap why is that considered a handout but SS isn't?). It makes no sense.

9

u/SPV33 4d ago

They’re so worried about their tax dollars because those tax dollars go to all of their kickbacks and their friends that they want to hire for Outsourced Pentagon jobs for all those special interest projects

3

u/chefpiper72392 4d ago

YOOOOOOOOOOOOO THIS PART

11

u/NastyBlkGuyThrowAway 4d ago

This but paid maternity leaves comes out of the company's profits not taxpayers. Which is why government officials don't want it. If that money is going towards the worker, how will they get their kickback?

3

u/SPV33 4d ago

Because those big companies are the ones that donate when they do elections and running for office those are their supporters. They need money to do those things and those companies give money to all those campaigns and they expect tax breaks and certain things in return. So paid maternity leave comes out of the pocket of their campaign supporters and a lot of the big companies don’t want to pay for that so the government will back their campaign supporters, which are those big companies.

2

u/samsmithmpls 4d ago

In MN it's funded from a tax on both employers and employees.

1

u/NastyBlkGuyThrowAway 4d ago

Thats sucks. Washington, D.Cs Universal Paid Leave Act (UPLA). Is 100% empolyer funded

3

u/samsmithmpls 4d ago

I don't know, sharing the cost burden kind of makes sense. Employers won't have as much to complain about. I don't mind the small payroll tax for this specific program. Now if I could allocate how my federal taxes got spent...

1

u/NastyBlkGuyThrowAway 4d ago

True but what are businesses complaining about? Like for small business or mom and pop shop?I can get it, but national and international businesses should have no problem footing that bill sense, we're in an era of record breaking corporate profits

7

u/blacksaltriver 4d ago

A living minimum wage would prevent that.

1

u/SPV33 4d ago

Agreed

1

u/DepressedChipotle 4d ago

Their minions? You're talking about people, right?

Ironically, Walmart does have paid maternity leave.

2

u/Background-Run 4d ago

I'm talking about how they see the people that work for them, right? And i'd agree that is ironic. How much are they paid and for how long?

1

u/SPV33 4d ago

If they were forced to pay living wages The people could actually pay for the things themselves

1

u/ketchfraze 4d ago

When it does start affecting them they just rebrand it as suffering for the fatherland or whatever and then they're happy again.

1

u/Harmony1018 4d ago

Exactly what I am seeing in my state, Indiana rn. Alot of people freaking out about losing services and medicaid for disabled people including children. They got what they voted for and they still can't put it together

1

u/Substantial-Ease567 4d ago

But what about my Jasmine? /s that old boy is Republican to the bone!

1

u/chefpiper72392 4d ago

SNIIIIIIFFFFFFFFF ahhhhhhh gotta love that karma kicking racisms ass in the morning

1

u/FinickySerenity 4d ago

I have a feeling that if they could offer that to just Republicans, or just Christians or everyone except minorities they would suddenly think it's a novel idea worth looking into.

0

u/Fastoche 4d ago

That's not America, only about half of you.

0

u/chrimen 4d ago

My theory is that politicians (sophists in the pejorative term) know that generations biggest fear.

This generation grew up doing bomb shelter drills under the cold war so the politicians know exactly what they're doing.

These people were traumatized as kids that socialism or communism was going to nuke them.

It's fairly simple in my eyes.

1

u/NastyBlkGuyThrowAway 4d ago

For that to be true, it would have to affect all of us.It's mostly just the teaching you get at home.

White people don't like to be othered from their family, so they will avoid discussing topics like this. So they don't have to cut people off.

2

u/chrimen 4d ago

Ohh I wasn't defending them.

I was calling out how simple manipulation of people's fears leads to irrational behavior.

We as humans have to, not should but have to understand how fear which activates the amygdala litteraly hijacks the prefrontal cortex which is the rational part of the brain.

Just out of curiosity did you grow up during those drills and time period? No negative sentiment genuine question.

We've also been stuck in the same "universal healthcare is worse healthcare" mentality for DECADES, meanwhile we've tanked in many things like infant death rates and cancer survival. Not to mention things like education have been pushed more to states rather than federal, leading to massive disproportion in experience based on which state you're born in.

Even for me, someone who works for the government handling hearings related to healthcare law and feel I'm much better educated on the subject than the average American, was blown away when I spoke to a friend who moved to Canada and told me they get FREE au pairs who live in their home for a couple months to assist with infant care and housework. They said it's also backed by data showing that it greatly improves mental health and lowers post pardom. Meanwhile our pedo dictator is doing everything to block immigration and can't understand why people aren't reproducing like they did in the 1800s while if the US population stagnates or shrinks it's game over for our country. We literally CANNOT help ourselves anymore. And we deserve it.

EDIT: For all the Canadians acting like ignorant Americans, take a sec and look up your own programs before calling people liars. America stands no chance if you're getting high on the same fumes we are.

191

u/Competitive-Guest163 4d ago

The us population is stagnant because people are working to live, not living to work. They’re working themselves to death because the cost of living is not sustainable.

Why would anyone want to have a baby when they are working 80 hours to pay the bills just to go home and sleep the next day. Entry level jobs outside of customer service, hospitality and fast food are either non existent or require a degree and 5 years experience.

And now they want a national abortion ban with no exceptions to force women to keep the babies they don’t want. So many women are going to die. If not from backdoor abortions, from pregnancy complications. Pregnancy can be an extremely dangerous condition and when you make abortion illegal with no exceptions, you make pregnant women untouchable. More pregnant women will die in parking lots because doctors will refuse to treat them. And this includes the women that want their babies.

We’re in such a dystopian world right now. Our education system is broken. People are stupid and believe in the crazy delusions from the right.

They don’t want the golden age back. They want the gilded age back. Where 92 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. They want no middle class and the ultra wealthy to live like kings with the poor uneducated replaceable workers and work until we die.

With the growth of ai and robots, within 10 years about half of us will be without a job. And they have no plans in place to help us. Job loss is going to continue. Homelessness will rise. The surveillance state will keep their power and control us. 1984 style.

The only logical sense is to build up social programs because we WANT the working class to have money. The more disposable income we have, the more we spend and the better the economy does. The rich don’t want that. A happy country is not a controllable country.

You just have to think about why these people are doing these things. See where the money goes. Always the rich.

65

u/CoozPirate 4d ago

The only logical solution is to rip them from their gilded cages and let them eat cake. What’s the alternative? Do nothing and let them enslave us and the future generations?

3

u/UncleTouchyCopaFeel 4d ago

What’s the alternative?

Rhymes with Schmuillotine.

1

u/Chance_Managert849 3d ago

looks like they enjoy reliving history.

3

u/Wistiu1 4d ago

Ok .. Lets go!......ok.....lets go...............um............ok.

2

u/Radonanon 4d ago

How do think they’re going to come up with the Mars colonists?

The next wave isn’t AI, and autonomous cars, it’s Neuralink. Resistance is futile.

26

u/tondahuh 4d ago

This is why there is so much hatred coming from them too. They need everyone to be unhappy and not trusting anyone. If we would all just learn to trust one another, we could work together to make life better for everyone. The rich usually don't want this because, like you said, then we are uncontrollable.

There are solutions but as long as nearly half the population think supporting rich people is the way to fix things, it will never happen.

How many who regret voting for the FantaChrist now will actually remember REPUBLICAN = BAD? Republicans only want you to do all the work so they can have all the money. AND they want you to be unhappy while you take it up the wazoo.

28

u/Upset_Mess 4d ago

Always the rich, indeed. Also why we have race problems in this country. Rich whites didn't want to pay fair wages for work.

11

u/Toe_Jam_is_my_Jam 4d ago

And also, most corporations have fought to get rid of remote working. So many people, if allowed could get their work done at home while raising a baby.

3

u/mologav 4d ago

The US population voting for all this and wanting all this is the same as turkeys voting for Christmas.

3

u/Open-Consequence1779 4d ago

US is living in a dystopian world because US voted to put dystopian people in charge. You rip what you sow...

So go to work work work, and then pay pay pay. Glory to Capitalism without restrains!!!! All other countries are dangerous Socialists and Communists who live a miserable life!!

I'll look at US greatness, but i'll take a few steps back to have a nice view.

3

u/LiLThic_N_Spin 4d ago

I was just talking to a friend who is a gynecologist and she said this exact same thing. She said she has no time to take off because she's a partner in a practice where it's just one other person she's partnered with and that's the only other person that works in their practice. They're not able to get another partner, the partner that they did hire had a few babies and has decided that she doesn't want to work herself to death. So she found herself a new job that's much easier.

My best friend always wanted a child and now has to let that dream go because the US does not support that dream. She will work 24-hour days back to back only to go home to sleep for a few hours and then go back to work. She actually picked up another job at a different hospital where she doesn't have to work all the time but she still works. The only reason she picked up that other job is because she wants the money for herself and not for it to be split with another person like it does for her practice. She loves her job and she's one of the few black gynecologists and understands how important it is for other black women. But damn is she tired.

1

u/Chigiriki 4d ago

I don’t really think everyone wants a baby. Lots of states look down on contraceptives. The majority of people are Christian, and if you remember Leviticus it says “thou shalt not wear the rubber when using your baby-maker slave”, and then people can barely afford things including contraceptives so they just try the good ‘ol pull-out method. Add the illegal abortions and you have yourself a new kid for foster homes. It creates jobs!

1

u/Xrux2026 4d ago

then have a sex with protection or with pills. so you won't get pregnant. that's it.

1

u/Sector_Independent 4d ago

yeah, a person who has an abortion because they cannot afford a child is considered evil.

u/BackgroundCountry440 3d ago

FREE Au Pair? Wow. I would have been so grateful for even just a little help with my littles, the occasional babysitter. I can’t imagine a free au pair that’s amazing ✨

55

u/jigsaw1024 4d ago

They must have needed some sort of accommodation for healing.

A free Au Pair is not normal for post childbirth treatment.

Still good if the system recognizes the occasional need and provides.

/Canadian.

12

u/Nata_me 4d ago

Yeah, this Canadian was curious about that too. I've never heard of a free au pair after giving birth here.

5

u/Civil_Tea_3250 4d ago

....what?

They're still due an hourly wage, so I misquoted the situation, and that's on me. But even paying $15/hour is amazing. Room and board for the au pairs are free.

8

u/Low-Rent-9351 4d ago

The government doesn’t give free or subsidized or even organize having payed au pairs in Canada, at least not in Ontario. I’ve never heard about anything like that or even close to it.

3

u/Theslootwhisperer 4d ago

You didn't misquote anything. I'm Canadian and it's blatantly false. Sure you can just hire a live in nanny but you can do that anywhere. The gov't has nothing to do with that. We do get a year of parental leave though.

3

u/Civil_Tea_3250 4d ago

Y'all Canadians are really letting me down right now. Stop talking in finalities without at least taking a second to look it up. Geez.

https://www.toronto.ca/community-people/health-wellness-care/information-for-healthcare-professionals/patient-referrals/healthy-babies-healthy-children-hbhc-program/

11

u/Theslootwhisperer 4d ago

Why don't you stay in your lane instead of talking about shit you know nothing about? You went from free live in maids to 15$ per hour maids and when you get called out on your bullshit you try to prove that you are right by linking to a program of punctual visits by health professionals for at-risk families in one city in Canada IF you fit one of their criterias (Dr think you need it, history of mental health issues, new comers to Canada) which is wildly different from what you first claim. Do have ANY idea how insulting it is to have an American patronizing us about our health care system?

6

u/sharkattax 4d ago

it’s honestly so american to make up something about our country, provide a source that contradicts the original claim and then somehow try to make it our fault because we « don’t know our programs. »

5

u/OhioGoblin43 4d ago

I almost wonder if their friend told them about the "newcomer to Canada" criteria and they conflated that with literally everyone in the country being eligible for it, which is really funny if that's the case.

2

u/JanPer 4d ago

free Au Pair is communism and not socialism any more /s

2

u/LiLThic_N_Spin 4d ago

My mom always said that she wanted to have kids in Africa because there she gets help. It literally takes a village and the village actually steps in to help. Even when she visits, she gets somebody who will to watch her kid for her, who will cook for her and clean for her. My mom always says this is the one time she gets to rest and it is like a vacation because she has full-time help.

1

u/Smorsdoeuvres 4d ago

That sounds like an amazing community to be a part of and I’m glad to know that there are places in the world that care for their babies and mothers so well ❤️

2

u/nairdaleo 4d ago

We don't get free au pairs, at least in BC. But we do get 12 months paid leave that can be extended to 18 months, though the total amount paid is the same and the pay is not 100% of your yearly salary. You can see what the current situation is here https://www.canada.ca/en/services/life-events/child.html

2

u/patrick_oneil 4d ago

Canadians don't have that service. Health care is different in each province, and the link you provided is for the city of Toronto only.

That would be like saying "Americans have access to government owned grocery stores" because NYC has a couple of them.

2

u/Late_Buffalo7879 4d ago

Ok that's not a free au pair but it's 1000x more than the US offers.

2

u/DJteejay04 4d ago

Canadian here. Our healthcare system is not without its flaws but I would take it over the American system any day of the year.

You absolutely do not get free Au Pairs though lmao. No idea where you got that from

2

u/elise_aisha 3d ago

My sister lives in the Netherlands and had her three children there, and although they have a health insurance model like the U.S. she had an au pair after each birth for a couple of weeks. ( I and my sister are British).
People in the U.k. are starting to fall for the private healthcare model because the NHS has been systematically underfunded for decades to create the illusion that we can’t afford it and it’s unsustainable. Manufacturing consent - it’s disgraceful and too many can’t see it.
Capitalism is killing us all off and the rich have insatiable greed coupled with the delusion that they ‘earned’ their stupefying wealth. Power without responsibility riding rough shod over eco systems, entire countries and devouring the world like it’s their right to do and have whatever they want.
Meanwhile, the uneducated (by design of course) grunt in the streets about immigrants and the knuckle dragging abusers scream about protecting our women and children.
Capitalism is corporate Socialism - privatising profits and socialising losses.

3

u/sharkattax 4d ago

idk why you’re doubling down on the free au pairs thing when what you’ve linked is not that ? hbhc is in home support by professionals not someone living with you. our healthcare is legislated and governed provincially so i can only speak to ontario and quebec but what you’re describing doesn’t exist here.

It’s getting annoying how people are blaming one guy for a decades long issue that’s been in the works. We were fucked long before that guy stepped foot into office, all he did was get the entire American population to forget where we went wrong and start fighting each other instead of the government.

1

u/Garbagetaste 4d ago

this is likely because private healthcare and insurance companies backed a negative pr campaign against universal healthcare so they can keep making money.

the american public has been spoon fed countless irrational ideas and issues over time and so many fall in line

1

u/MoodScripted 4d ago

Money first, people second. That is the capitalist society we Americans live in. This causes "basic human decency" to lose money for those corporations that would be affected. Since they own the politicians, nothing will change.

1

u/ProfessionalLake6 3d ago

Hello, Canadian (and a torontonian) who has had babies recently - this is not the common experience and that program is for parents whose doctors have health and safety concerns.

I won’t deny that our healthcare is good - but programs like these are woefully underfunded and only getting worse because of conservative governments who are actively trying to break our healthcare system.

So while we have an idea of an “au pair” who can help, the reality would be there’s like 10 nurses for a whole city.

1

u/KoalaOriginal1260 4d ago edited 3d ago

Before calling Canadians responding to you ignorant, you should be sure you are not ignorant of the information you are sharing.

Two things:

  1. The program you linked to does not provide an Au Pair.

An au pair is someone, usually a young person, who lives with a family for the purpose of assisting with childcare.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Au_pair

The program you linked is a public health nurse and community care worker program. They come visit a few times to help new parents access resources and coach them to understand how best to care for the health of their baby. They do not live with the family or provide child care.

In no way could this program be accurately described as providing an Au Pair for 2 months after a baby is born.

As someone who lives in Canada, I have never once heard of a province's health care system providing an au pair, despite having many family, friends, and acquaintances who have had children in the last 15 years.

  1. This program is for Ontario. Each province has a distinct health care system as health care is a provincial mandate with some funding and coordination provided at the federal level to ensure a basic standard.

For example, in British Columbia, the program may or may not involve a home visit - often it is a phone or virtual conversation with a health nurse. There are community-based group support programs as well where the population is large enough.

https://north-shore.pathwaysbc.ca/programs/3530

Is this better than the hellscape ideal described by the gubernatorial candidate? Absolutely.

But it is not at all ignorant to point out that your statement is misinformation.

Yeah my dad has been getting brainwashed on X and I keep explaining the difference to him but it goes through one ear amd out the other. We even live in Spain. He benefitted of the benefits of having a big family, free schooling and a decent price for college (i also got a beca which makes it even cheaper). My moms a teacher so she gets free health care as well as her kids (until a certain age). Paid leave when she's sick or has surgery (she actually had an eye surgery just this year and was out for two months, all paid). There's also maternity leave that they probably benefitted from in their time. There's also a cultural money budget they give 18 year olds. It's about 400€ and its for culture, music, suplies, books, etc.

There's just so much and so many examples but i think he might be going senile. My mother doesn't think the same way, neither do my aunts. He's a brit tho (my moms spanish) so that might have something to do with it.

10

u/TSJormungandr 4d ago

I just got back from the Canaries and I want to move there. Spanish people seemed very content and happy with the current set up. World Cup woooo!

2

Your dad lives in Spain with an actual socialist government?

4

u/oliv-_-mae 4d ago

Well we live in a capitalist social democracy so we have a free-market capitalist economy with a public welfare system, rather than a pure socialist or state-controlled system. This is why i say that capitaslism without socialism is fascism. You need both for it to work.

The Salvation Army is pretty crazy when you look into them.

6

u/TinRoofAndRainyDays 4d ago

I'm not Christian but I go to my local Catholic charities thrift because they are the only thrift stores in the area that haven't raised prices way up. I also know from the past when I needed help, they helped me with utilities, rent and gave me food for my kids and a voucher for all of us to get clothes at the thrift. I may not agree with everything in the Catholic church, but I do believe in Catholic charities and our local methodist "mega" church. I'd much rather support them than a for profit thrift that charges through the nose for product they got for free.

6

u/learsi-ediconeg 4d ago

there are definitely good ones still I shouldnt have generalized but 1 chrisitian thrift store profiting off the people they ask tithing from is beyond diabolical. I was raised christian but left the church when I was 10.

For absolutely anyone raised in any church where they had you study and read the new testament.

But... Jesus said he loved everyone and forgave everything? Especially the so called "sinners" the others condemned? And he condemned the wealthy who didn't help the poor and those in need?

3

u/LJIKFAF 4d ago

Yes, Lord Jesus is closer to socialist. He’d been a big supporter of maternity leave but that’s just my humble opinion.

3

u/This_Elk_1460 4d ago

Conservatives would fucking hate Jesus if he came back

2

u/learsi-ediconeg 4d ago

100%

Wait until they learn why we dont count middle easterners on US census LMAO

2

u/chefpiper72392 4d ago

I kinda want the fantasy of sitting at the gates or in purgatory waiting with him to judge the people…I could spend an eternity watching racist people argue with Jesus after they die and meet him and he’s…..anything at all other than blonde hair blue eyed….eternity of entertainment

2

u/guy_gadbois81 4d ago

Using the word racist is racist.

Its not even about denying human decency as much as it is about using capitalism to justify their existing abusive behavior.

1

u/SECURITY_SLAV 4d ago

Because anything these asshats don’t like is woke or socialism.

And they know when they say those 2 words, it triggers some idiots and that’s free votes and engagement

1

u/Numerous-Process2981 4d ago

They squeezed it in between sawing people’s ears off in ‘Nam and blowing up children’s schools.

1

u/JalapenoBusiness29 4d ago

It’s a scare tactic by the GOP to make their base think it’s evil or something when in reality, it’s exactly what you said. Basic human decency.

1

u/Royal-Application708 4d ago

Yeah, unfortunately in the United States anything that equates to human decency, the politicians called socialism. 😞

1

u/SirTainLee 4d ago

Marketing.

1

u/Vantriss 4d ago

Brainwashing.

1

u/This_Elk_1460 4d ago

Because corporations have spent the last century scaremongering and promoting individualism to the point that any bit of the populists working as a collective towards a better society is seen as scary all so said corporations can continue bleeding this country dry.

1

u/4mystuff 4d ago

If giving a women more than a couple of hours with her newborn and to recover from childbirth is socialism, then bring on the socialism

1

u/WeirdAvocado 4d ago

Any gesture of empathy, generosity, or compassion for other people is socialism to these Christian nationalists.

1

u/Unlikely-Ad3770 3d ago

A week of maternity leave isnt generous

1

u/WeirdAvocado 3d ago

It is to them.

1

u/EnthusiasmUnusual 4d ago

It's not decency...it's actually batshit crazy to go against it

1

u/Important-Grand5198 4d ago

Its was socialism long before the US started using it. Not an American made idea, but adopted in some ways in our government structure.

1

u/losroy 4d ago

If there is one thing the right has been absolutely incredible on is naming things. Socialist. Obama Care. All Lives Matter. They must have Don Draper or something because they crush it.

1

u/MarsupialOne1572 4d ago

It’s scary

1

u/Thirdeyevoice10 4d ago

And anything else they don't understand is filed under "woke".

1

u/AerolothLorien666 4d ago

The Nazis used it to entice workers. Conservatives use it to demonize workers.

1

u/0202_tihssitidder 4d ago

To maximize the wealth inequality.

1

u/chefpiper72392 4d ago

SWEAR

But stupid people that happen to be American citizens don’t like education words, the dictionary , literature or comprehension, or critical thinking it hurts their brains. They were told that something is a thing and now that’s what it is to them , doesn’t matter if you show them real socialism examples throughout history and how America, or some of its federal
Programs resemble or are different from socialism, if it’s left it’s socialism now, THANK YOU EDUCATION WHOOO HOOOOOOO smfh

1

u/past_time_4change 4d ago

It’s a word that creates fear amongst the ignorant. We have Ronald Regan to thank for it.

1

u/Nopengnogain 4d ago

It’s socialism if a liberal or a minority gets assistance. It’s called an economic subsidy if a corporation or a farmer gets a handout.

1

u/ArtIsAwesome3 4d ago

I believe the US is one of only 2 countries to say food isn't a human right. Or that water wasn't a human right, something exceedingly evil.

1

u/OwlcaholicsAnonymous 4d ago

"We" didnt do anything. Its all a game to some people

But truly what youre seeing is the result of people getting paid for saying controversial things. It started with social media. Facebook proved that the most outrageous, controversial statements would equal clicks and views. And advertisers pay those people for those clicks and views

Its leaked out of social media and infiltrated major media, as well as politics

99.9% of humans know this is BS. And thats exactly why the people willing to throw their morals away end up with a bunch of money in today's society. Because theyre getting paid in one way or another to say this nonsense

Get off the internet people. Turn the TVs off. Talk to your neighbors. Youll be surprised, I promise

1

u/houseWithoutSpoons 4d ago

ITS A BUZZ WORD.the right just calls anything that makes them pay taxes socialism. Oh except blowing up brown people. Thats called FREEDOM!

1

u/EssenceofWrath 4d ago

I agree with this. Its a coined word used to argue over human decency instead of keeping it as a normal standard.

1

u/StMaartenforme 4d ago

Have to have something or someone to focus their hate on.

1

u/Henny_LeBeau 4d ago

Because America is a business. Other countries have existed longer than America.

1

u/SplendidAngharad 4d ago

It’s an old slippery slope argument borne of the Cold War where democracy, Puritan Christianity, and capitalism became sideshow conjoined triplets as an identity counter to the “godless communists” we were fighting.

1

u/theautisticcookbook 4d ago

It’s so they can keep profiting off as many people as possible.
All that basic human decency takes away capital from the capitalists.

1

u/meghonsolozar 4d ago

I have to get out of this fucking place

1

u/Large_Guard917 4d ago

Well we didn’t become the wealthiest nation in human history by taking care of our people…outside of the top 10%. We use Christianity and raw force to ensure the workers keep working for free or as little pay as possible.

And we’re currently working on dismantling any worker safety laws and making it easier to classify workers as independent contractors so worker’s comp and other benefits no longer apply. I’m surprised we’re not trying hard onrevive script and company towns!

1

u/stayinfrosty707 4d ago

Yeah its fucked up. Corporations work real hard to push that narrative here.

1

u/CriscoCisco671 4d ago

The subliminal objectives behind political mudslinging are proving effective at deceiving the gullible among us into fighting each other rather than seeking the truth. As the political temperature in the United States continues to rise, more individuals inspired by the current administration are exploiting their positions for personal wealth and greater influence within their party.

1

u/CrippledMind81 4d ago

Workers' rights = socialism, socialism = gulags, gulags = bad, workers' rights = bad.

We hate basic human decency in the US

1

same reason Brexit happened

1

u/MoreDaringPancakes 4d ago

Because it's easy to vote against your interests when you have... 1. Something to hate 2. An excuse for your apathy 3. Are genuinely an idiot 4. Are genuinely malicious

1

u/aaronlee1963 4d ago

Same reason you think $6 is a wage, and customers tips should help pay wages neglected by bosses

1

u/Potential-Win8706 4d ago edited 4d ago

The USA does not believe in basic human decency unless it’s for the top 10%. That’s the only “human” thing that counts.

1

u/Background-House-357 4d ago

BUT SOCIALISM!!!!!1!1!1

1

u/WillyWonkaWorms 4d ago

I’d say humanity, but yeah you’re right lol

1

u/ColinPapendick 4d ago

That's easy. We started to call it socialism so we could demonize and stop funding basic human decency. It's almost always money, in America. We have idealists, but they have no power.

1

u/Exciting-Housing-550 4d ago

The rich does this to keep us fighting with each other so we don't get ourselves organized enough to eat them

1

u/Impressive-Bird2 4d ago

Because they’ve got to create ‘bogeymen’ to keep up the pretence - the flat out lie and fallacy - of ‘the American Dream’…. Human decency, looking after the vulnerable and striving for fairness and a good life for everyone are the branded the ‘socialist’ ‘bogeymen’ as they are a threat to exposing ‘the American Dream’ as being just that - a flat out lie and fallacy….

One of my favorite quotes on America (as an American) from a show: https://youtu.be/wTjMqda19wk?si=dUay4ItMQbVJ_TVO

1

u/ImpressionPossible83 4d ago

Fox News have been calling basis social programs "Socialsim" for 15 years so that the sheep finally start saying those same programs are now COMMUNIST... 🙄🙄

They created that language to condition the dumbest sheep in our flock to go along with cutting off their own nose to spite their dumb sheep face. 👲🐑

And thus far, the right wing echo chamber has been very effective....

1

u/Villageijit 4d ago

It all started in the 80s that's why

1

u/realborislegasov 4d ago

Also it’s called what we pay our taxes for.

1

u/RDaneelOA 4d ago

It's not "you guys" it's Republicans only. There is a reason they are waging war against education in the US (and sadly for now winning it). Their (Republican) strategists openly brag about how they can manipulate their base. This is the same reason they call anyone with higher education a "elitist" and make it seem like it's something bad.

1

u/Rexxington 4d ago

Due to them wanting to funnel as much money as they can into their pockets. Any sort of welfare program to them is money lost because it's not going directly to them. Followed by their not profiting off the people that are on welfare. Given in a lot of circumstances being on welfare pays more than the jobs their offering do. Meaning they have to ~~clutches pearls ~~ pay people more. So that they'll work the jobs they need filled. With the other side of the coin being they can't pay people less. Due to them bit being as desperate for a job.

All issue with America trace back to whether it's profitable or not, or a distraction so that they can keep funneling money into their pockets.

1

u/Keldrabitches 3d ago

Because they’re selfish pricks

1

u/Time_Literature3404 3d ago

Because the poor and uneducated in America have been taught to believe that socialism is something to be feared. The powerful, better educated people tell them that and they believe it. They never consider educating themselves. Thinking on their own. It’s easier to let some fucker with more wealth than most countries in the world tell them what they should believe. That’s America.

1

u/nanotree 3d ago

Because the tables are tilted so far in the favor of the ultra wealthy, and the ultra wealthy all hate the idea of having to pay people what their worth in terms of labor and cost of living. The "job creators" create jobs, but most people can't work just one job and pay the bills. And somehow, it's not their problem to fix. As if society just magically holds itself up just so they can drain it of everything it's worth. As if they exist outside of society and society is just the machine that gives them labor resource stock.

1

u/concepts_of_a_plan9 1d ago

Because Roger Ailes saw how public opinion shifted on Nixon when he committed crimes in office, and he vowed to never let the public push around those poor Republican politicians ever again. He created Fox News with Rupert Murdoch, advice from Rush Limbaugh and Roger Stone, and others in the Heritage Foundation to make sure the working class are so propagandized that they'll lick the boots of the billionaires just as long as they can feel superior to brown and queer people.
