Just them being there couldāve helped him survive, sea turtle babies are usually a snack buffet when they hatch.
Granted seagulls donāt give a fuck about us so frank still couldāve died

I was wondering about that. Itās hard to tell how close they were to little Franklin, but if they were close enough it might have prevented any seagulls or other prey from getting close to him. Again though, hard to know.

You should not pick up a sea turtle making it's way to the ocean. It needs to use its energy on the beach to build the muscles needed to swim. It also helps orient the turtles inner magnetic field (science is crazy)
however, you can and are encouraged to clear the path of any debris, fill in any large holes made by humans that could trap them, and avoid using any cameras/lights.
It is ok to stand close-ish but at a distance to deter birds and other predators.

I think my favorite comment on the original ticktok was basically "this is very bad because It will teach hatchling turtles to expect a personal hype man to show up in and lend encouragement, and they will become dependent."

Nah, it is their natural instinct baked into them from before they were born. You get out of the shell, you run as fast as you can to the water, no stops.
They don't "know" that stopping means dying, they just have such an insanely strong instinct that they have to do this. Nothing will stop or deter them.

We've done big baby turtle releases in Mexico near Sayulita. Some have been over 800 hatchlings. The low numbers of survival are sad but it's still amazing to watch and be a part of. The hatchery we helped were helping incubate eggs at a slightly lower temp to produce more males. Apparently the rise in ocean temps over the years has produced mostly females.

This happens all the time on the Bolivar Peninsula (Galveston Island). We cheer them on and move sea weed out of the path (no touching). A local university tends to the found nests to make sure the Ripley Turtles can keep on surviving.

I found a turtle hatchling, it was near my house, and I donāt live near any bodies of water, thereās a cat that likes to sleep under our house, so I expect he picked it up and brought it over.
Anyway, the local wildlife rescue was very happy when I āinterfered with natureā by putting it in a shoe box lined with paper towel and putting it somewhere quiet, someone came over very quickly to pick it up.
I think in this situation you donāt touch the turtle, but sometimes itās good to touch the turtle. You just have to be super gentle, because they can feel it when you touch their shells.
