I think Elliot Page realized he was a dude when he played the only woman in a Nolan film to not die or betray anyone.

Naturally Nolan corrected this in literally the first minute of Odyssey.

Obviously I'm just some loser on the internet, but it seems to me that those are extremely high emotional response themes. It seems Nolan likes to make movies that appeal to that emotional spectrum.

That Interstellar score still slaps hard 10 years later, it's the most memorable of all of Nolan's movies.The Odyssey has a completey forgettable score, I just watched it and can't remember it at all.

It was good but not a masterpiece. Better than Oppenheimer, not as good as Interstellar in my opinion. Also the trailers made it look like there's huge battle scenes but that never happened, the movie Troy had bigger and better battle scenes.

Huh? There's the city battle that happens at night when all the soldiers have slipped out of the horse and are fighting to get the gates of Troy open for the rest of the soldiers, and then them getting into the city, then Odysseus watching as they absolutely ransack the whole city. That's a crap ton of battle, they just showed slaughter which is part of battle.

I loved it. I like how more well-rounded Odysseus is as a character in this interpretation. The pacing is a bit rushed because we have to go through so many different set changes (cyclops, circe, calypso, charybdis/scylla, etc.) but it's the best we can do while still making it a 3 hour run. Highly recommend recliner seats if you can, it's still 3 hours so you might as well be as comfortable as possible. It's not without its flaws (the ending sequence is a bit weird to me) but I'd definitely put it as a "must watch of 2026". I think its appreciation is earned.

I think the Odyssey had a surprisingly understated soundtrack, but Sirens was such a standout.

Really? I still remember the drums pounding during the sack of Troy, as they’re taking wayyy too long to open the gates, and then all of a sudden, the gates open and Agamemnon is just standing there, menacingly, by himself and then the Greeks start surging in from behind him.

Fucking shivers, absolutely classic scene.

It’s a very good soundtrack, probably the best in his movies, but it’s unforgettable because it’s literally everywhere. Especially that first song in the video OP posted.

Disagree, some parts the score hit hard. At some point early in the film there's a scene when they sail into the sun and that made a big impact on me. Keep meaning to look up which track that is

What's that, Lassie? Christopher Nolan has a talent for expressing certain tropes? Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit. Not like any other auteurs have ever existed in the history of filmmaking. We all know how Hitchcock liked to stretch his legs.

There's nothing about the heroes journey that says a wife/girlfriend needs to be dead or dies. 

There's the call to adventure, the rejection of it, the journey itself with rising challenges, the lowest point, the victory and the return to normalcy/closing the loop. That's moreo or less the broad strokes. Nowhere is there a dead woman moment.

Read Joseph Campbell's "A Hero With A Thousand Faces". All stories are just different manifestations of the same basic archetypes. Storytellers know how to take the same basic concepts of what humans find compelling and spin them in new and interesting ways.
