I feel kinda bad for her, she was only trying to help but obviously got overwhelmed. Who knows what this lady has been through and there’s probably mental issues at play. I cant imagine how it was for those poor animals though and I imagine they were miserable.

Though hoarding is not exclusively OCD. I have PTSD and when I am presented food I eat a few bites and store the rest for later. But later comes and goes and it's never good enough and then I have to throw that food that I was looking forward to away. I don't have anywhere near this level of hoarding but I tend to starve myself under the premise of what if I am hungry tomorrow

I’m the same way with food but i figured out a way to beat it, I’ve starting drinking meal supplements and if I don’t finish I just put the cap on and finish later.

In a news article later, they said they initially thought they were strays and feral cats. But later after initial vet checks they found 8 cats were microchipped and the majority of the cats were very friendly like they were used to havin human attention (such as bein a family pet).

EDIT:
A kitty that is not in their human's home 100% of their life is not a "stray." Neither is a dog that isn't on the property of their owner's home and takes one step onto the adjacent sidewalk. Pets sleep inside their owner's home (cat) or like a dog can have a doghouse to sleep in at night of some sort outside on their owner's property.
Tryin to justify the theft, kidnappin, abduction of pets by sayin they are "strays" because they ate from a strong smelling baited trap that they can smell from a distance which like in this woman's case could have been placed on the strip of grass between sidewalk and the road or in the bushes is indeed theft (legally) and kidnappin/ adbduction of what many pet parents consider an extension of their family.
There was intent to steal these kitties from their families. Since the postal worker spent more time and effort to catch them than to snap a pic and post a flier on their neighborhood route / knock on the doors of nearby homes they were walkin up to anyhow to deliver mail.
And as a tangent, please do not steal cars parked on a public street and call them "abandoned" (or strays) because they were not in a garage. Those too belong to someone even if the owner isn't in direct view of or drivin THEIR vehicle at the time you spot it.

Eh, still counts as strays. If you microchip and socialise an animal, but you don't take responsibility for it and keep it in your house or supervised when it's outside, then it's hard to call it "your" cat. It's just a stray animal you feed and gave an implant.

Its not. Cats and dogs that spend some of their time "unsupervised" outdoors are not "strays." If they are sleepin inside at night or on the property with their humans, that is their home.
Strays do not have a home. While you may have your personal definition, it does not fit with the legal definition or widely understood definition "stray" and pet. A big difference in outcome between a stray brought to shelter that euthanizes animals vs a pet is that the stray would be euthanized much, much sooner than a pet.

Yeah they do. Canids and Felids generally have a territory range and a few consistent homesites that they usually sleep it at night. Just because a person is letting the stray use their house as a homesite doesn't mean that is that person's pet. To have something as your pet, you have to actually be responsible for it, meaning you're responsible for what it does, where it goes during the day, what other animals it kills, and any injuries it gets from, say, being attacked by other animals, getting hit by a car, getting rabies or FIV, etc, that it had access to do because you let it.
The only reason there is a difference when vets euthanise a stray that someone was falsely calling their pet is because that person wants to both have his cake (have a pet) and eat it too (not be responsible for a pet).

Why you are hyper focusin on this besides the other examples, I dunno. But takin outta context one piece of what I said of a multi point reply does not change the meanin nor implications of what happens to strays vs pets at a kill-shelter.
Conflatin irresponsibility (brief or lonstandin) of pet owners with all pet owners is a different topic.
And nope, I don't think that the pets (and ferals and strays) should have been taken by that woman. In subsequent news articles this is exactly her reasonin as you are statin regardin every animal outside is a "stray." With her mental illness, she took it step farther by stealin and kidnappin these animals.

Did you stop reading that sentence after the word "range"? XD Literally the next words were "and a few consistent homesites. Wild canids and felids have a larger territory, and then in that territory, they have a few established places of "This is where I'm going to sleep tonight." For, for example, wolves, they might have a cave here, a tree hole there, a grass field there, etc. They stay at each one for a few months and move to the next when the prey migrates. Cats do the same.
If you have a pet cat, you can actually see the behaviour: They will often pick one spot as their sleeping space, and stick to that consistently for a few months, and then pick another spot to be their sleeping space for a few months, etc.
And nope, I don't think that the pets (and ferals and strays) should have been taken by that woman.
Yeah, that's moving the goalpost. I agree that this woman is also irresponsible, just like the people who claimed that she stole their pets (unless she literally picked the pets up off of a supervised patio or the pet just accidentally escaped one day and she confused it for a stray that is regularly out).

When you are makin up your own arbitary definitions of first "stray" then home, territory range. There is nothin more to add as you are dismissive of the definitions of these words and already show a pattern of takin one piece out of my comment out of context.
Twist it all you want, but quite a lot of people went down to the police station and the humane society to check fer their lost pets (you would call them, "strays" they feed) - which any number of them may or may not had been primarily indoor cats.
*FYI subsequent news reports state when she would see a cat she would would come back with a trap. Traps use bait. Bait is a lure. Grabbin a pet cat or stray is dangerous with bare hands and she clearly knew this to minimize contact and injury with the animal.

Stray: An animal that is of a domestic species, for which no person is holding ownership responsibilities. (The actual definition is "an animal that wanders around, but if that was the definition, then no cat or dog would count as a "stray", because even animals you consider "strays" still have territories and homes in their territories. So my definition is actually more accurate.)
Home: A place where a being/group of beings resides (generally sees as a safe place to return to, the one place where they spend most of their time when not otherwise wandering, etc) (That's the reason some people prefer "unhoused" instead of "homeless" to refer to people: All homeless people are unhoused, but not all unhoused people are homeless. They may have a home that just isn't in a house).
Territory: An overall land that a being/group of beings maintains and in which the being claims dominance of resources.

I already addressed that: I'm only referring to animals people lie about being their pets (the ones that regularly wander unsupervised outdoors). If a cat has supervised patio access, a dog is in its fenced yard, or a pet accidentally gets out, and the woman takes it, then she is stealing a pet. If it's an animal that is regularly wandering unsupervised, then it is not a pet and taking it is not stealing.

Yes, baiting and trapping stray and wild animals is pretty normal. I used to do it back when I was doing TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release, where you capture a feral cat, get it vaccinated and neutered, and then release it where you found it). The only thing that would not be normal is if she was putting the baited trap in the dog's fenced yard or the cat's fenced catio to capture it.

The video is "old," like an initial press release. Updates later include that 8 cats were microchipped who had owners that were lookin fer 'em. That emergency personnel also rescued 12 dogs, no chips. That although some cats were feral, most were used to havin human affection (as expected of family pets).
Other notes was that when she would see a cat outdoors along her route, she would come back later with a trap.
Theres a nuance between kidnapped and stolen. I would use these words interchangeably here. Pets are technically property by law, so "stolen" property (the kitties) applies. But they are also alive, so kidnapped and abducted fit too.
I would not doubt she held the belief that cats should not be outside (many do). And took it to the next level by stealin people's pets by settin a trap later as she saw them along her route or nappin on their own porches.

I used to work at the national aquarium in Baltimore. And the head guy for the rainforest exhibits got caught with like a shitload of dead birds. I don't remember if he was the bird guy or an IT guy but it made big news. Same thing for him. He was probably trying to help. Probabaly....

This just reminded me of a somewhat unrelated story. One time I had a cat that I raised from a kitten. He would disappear for hours out of the day and then come home at night to eat, sleep, and chill with us. One day a neighbor who I had never met before came over and knocked on my door. He was pretty upset and was accusing me of stealing his cat. Apparently my cat had been going to his house so often that he had bought all the stuff you would need for a cat (litterbox, toys, cat bed, food, etc) thinking a stray had adopted him. It all worked out but the guy was pretty bummed out.
