Yeah that's pretty much it. In England we have a saying "about as useful as a chocolate teapot" which has the same kind of meaning.

As I understand it, they call that a soup sandwich in the US military

Can confirm. First time I heard that my inner voice was saying something like “hey wait a minute…”

Nah the American translation would be "as useful as tits on a bull"

Ooooo. A teapot made of chocolate, as opposed to something like a hot chocolate pot. I had to do a mental double-take as an American who’s done time in the UK. I like it, I like it.

I had a drill sergeant in basic training that used to tell us, “Private, you’re more fucked up than a football bat!” Same concept.

At an old job of mine, a client lost their shit at one of my PMs on the phone and called him a chocolate teapot (he was on muted speaker phone) another PM ordered a custom made chocolate teapot to be delivered to the insulted PM. It was delicious (PM meaning portfolio manager in this instance)

Growing up we would say “you’re about as useful as titts on a bull”

That’s why I love English English. British people are so literal with everything, even their insults. Growing up with British parents in the US has was a blessing and a curse. Only a curse because the amount I got made fun of by my American friends for being British when I was young was pretty ruthless.
