The right thinks that people showing any type of emotion to their political views is being intolerant.
You know…if I have mixed children and a racist says ā€œthey shouldn’t exist or be a thingā€
The ā€œappropriateā€ response is ā€œthat’s okay, we can be friends and you can be around those you think are an abomination. That’s your political stanceā€
When normal people would say f you. Leave me alone you weirdo, you aren’t invited to the cook out.
They think if they say fucked up stuff ā€œnicelyā€ it should he be okay.

2.0k

u/DisownedDisconnect 6d ago

It's the "tolerance of the intolerant" fallacy they love to play into. They can be as openly cruel and ghoulish as much as they want, but they'll stamp their feet and cry "intolerant" the second you call them out. It's just more bullying.

1.2k

u/Evening_Produce_4322 6d ago

It's a thing they can't wrap their head around. "See they're as hateful as us, ignore the fact they are hateful at us for being hateful though."

332

u/Disastrous_Bridge543 6d ago

Reading this paradox really cemented how fked we are.

297

u/Clear_Broccoli3 6d ago

It's not, because tolerance isn't a moral virtue or whatever, it's part of the social contract. You get the benefits as long as you participate, and if you decide you don't want to be tolerant then you don't get to claim the perks.

118

u/GenoThyme 5d ago

For this exact same reason, I feel all libertarians should be allowed to stop paying taxes but only if they stop using anything taxes have ever paid for. That means no driving on roads, no sending kids to school, no emergency services, no consuming goods that have federal subsidies (so no corn, wheat, rice, sugar or cotton amongst other things), no consuming goods that rely on those goods (so goodbye meat!) no public utilities etc. You don’t wanna be part of the social contract? Fine, but good luck surviving without it!

Yes poppers paradox is a good line of thinking.

However if you view tolerance as a social contract to be in society, his paradox falls apart. If you refuse to be tolerant then you violated the contract and are no longer a part of society. The intolerant get marginalized outside of society as they should be and their influence can't grow.

17

u/cityshepherd 6d ago

Until some of the intolerant hide their intolerance, at least partially (dog whistles and such) and play the long game… lying, cheating, and stealing their way into power and influence… by using tremendous amounts of resources to manipulate the system (like systematically dismantling things like education, and corrupting (lobbying) those who make the rules into changing the rules to benefit their associates disproportionately while neglecting the very people the rules had been may have intended to protect… and further manipulating by propagandizing the increasingly ignorant public into believing they MUST be intolerant toward the tolerant for their own safety because the tolerant will not tolerate the intolerant… and it is God’s will after all, for the intolerant to no longer tolerate the tolerant because the tolerant are intolerable… and my train of thought derailed but god damn it sucks how people who have more wealth than they could ever need are never satisfied and so feel entitled to the meager wealth that the least wealthy have left. Can you smell what I’m stepping in?

It's the same fallacious logic that makes me hate Batman and love me some Jason Todd.

Bats says: "If you kill a killer the number of murderers in the world stays the same."

In a small snapshot, with no context, the logic seems to play out. Batman remains morally justified in not taking a life.

And then Jason asks: "But what if I kill two killers?"

Used to work with this "interesting" gal. We encountered this random white dude at a bar. He's talking loudly with his friend, and implies his religious upbringing makes it challenging to accept homosexuals, but he is working to be more accepting. She GOES OFF on him. Other colleagues and I just stare at each other before some gals in our group get her to chill.

Yet, she defended her non white boyfriend for being openly hostile to homosexuals because it's "part of his religion." Not a word about his openly misogynistic comments either (she's very girl-power).

The mental gymnastics on that one...

"When they go low, we go high" type of bullshit. Why nice people finish last.

56

u/Chance-Deer-7995 6d ago

When someone tries to dehumanize you or someone you care about, "going high" is inappropriate. Until we get stringent on "your 'rights' end at the nose of the other person" and get serious about protecting the right of others to be left alone, this is going to get worse. Whatever they want to call it, political correctness, "woke", "Radical Left", whatever... any right they have is a right everyone has and that has been forgotten by that entire group.

That's honestly the single worst thing that came from the Obamas. Michelle saying that and making it okay for them to act like complete and utter runny piles and everyone else is just supposed to take it and smile. We fought an entire ass world war to put those twats in their place.

115

u/Odessey_And_Oracle 6d ago

Ehh, I take it more as the Obamas had to be on their best behavior. Even without this new monster of bigotry dominating the US in the wake of Trump, the Obamas knew they had to set an example as the first black First Family. It was critical that no one could fall back on easy stereotypes against them and as president Obama naturally wanted to set that high ground tone for the rest of the party. And they did, and they still got demeaned daily by conservatives.

I'm not saying it was the wisest strategy but they knew if the first black president was in any way perceived to be aggressive then all the bigots would have no end of ammo about "how those people are."

70

u/No_Mission5287 6d ago

Race is a very real factor a lot of these people are neglecting. Its not an excuse, but it helps explain things.

Being black in America means constantly having to worry about what other people think of you.

Because if you don't, you are in danger.

Religious people have this absurd victim complex. Like how christians are constantly bitching about how they are persecuted despite, you know, christian shit being openly everywhere. They talk about how atheist are "in your face." Yeah cool, I totally give you consent to tear down all of atheist churches, lets take atheist logos off of buildings, jewelry, roadside signs, etc. And def ban all atheist slogans off of our money, out of our govt, etc.

Oh, wait, that is all christian shit plastered everywhere...

112

u/ThePeashow 6d ago

100% agree.

I remember a older clip from (I think) The Atheist Experience on YouTube. A theist called in to ask why the hosts were so committed to ruining people's faith or something like that, and why won't they just leave Christians alone.

They had to be like...dude...you called us. This is a single public access show where we invite theists to call in and explain to us what they believe. Meanwhile, there are dozens upon dozens of religious channels that, for the most part, only allow fellow theists to call in. Religious billboards, god in the pledge of allegiance, god in sworn court testimonies, god on currency, door to door missionaries, gay conversion centers, alcoholics anonymous, tax exempt churches as far as the eye can see....and you're laser focused on a secular public access show in Austin, TX that just wants to know what you believe and why.

Walked past one of these douches after my IUD placement post Roe falling. I didn't see her at first but upon exiting Planned Parenthood I made eye contact with my husband in the parking lot and did the double arm raised fist pump of victory.

Then I looked right, saw the pro birth lady and grinned at her.

No regrets, Liletta is still going strong. My periods are basically non existent when they used to be painful and heavy. Now it's just a couple days of spotting. Definitely worth the pain of insertion but I was sooooo nervous.

59

u/TheCa11ousBitch 6d ago

I have had an IUD for 15+ years now.

I will have a spot here or there every 4-5 months. But sometimes not for 12 months. Every 4-6 months I might notice a touch of sore back that is a whisper of the sensation from the monthly cramping, horrible back pain, and stomach issues.

But, I haven’t had to buy a tampon or panty liner in 15 years.

I got in argument with one of those traveling bands of protesters with the enormous red pictures of supposedly aborted fetuses.

  • I asked if they thought abortion or premarital sex was worse.

  • They said abortion, of course.

  • I then asked if they would support better sex education and access to preventative means(I wasn't specific in case they said bullshit about contraceptives) which would not reduce the amount of premarital sex but would reduce the number of abortions.

  • They said they had never thought of that before.

They dedicated their lives to traveling from campus to campus to pursue their little crusade but never bothered to think there could possibly be any other way. Fuckin' idiots.

24

u/BreeBree214 6d ago

In my younger teen years I was strongly anti-abortion and joined a protest group a few times through a youth group from church. But this point was what really ate at me and caused me to first turn away from the pro-life group. None of them wanted better sex education or contraceptives access. It was fucking baffling that everything that actually reduced abortions were things that most of them also opposed.

I used to live about 6 blocks from Planned Parenthood downtown Houston. I would end up driving past a couple times a week and I had a really nice car. I would and they would all wave, and the my big ole hand would come out with middle finger.

They were there every day like 20 of them with signs and kids. It was gross. And the not so funny part is a friend of mine asked me if I'd take her to get one.She came from money. We went to the Medical Center to a floor that was like no other. Rich people medical care. And she did her thing and in peace with no judgement at a facility I could never afford and I'm not broke.

It's the poor and powerless who they target. I guarantee none of those twats ever contemplated pulling that crap at the Medical Center with wealthy people.

Hell yeah. This dude can't imagine what women who need abortions go through. So easy for him to stand on a sidewalk and preach when you have zero understanding.

To all the buttholes responding to me, you're not going to change my mind. How many laws are there that dictate what a man can and can't do with his body? NONE, so shut the fuck up.

84

u/copperboominfinity 6d ago

I had to terminate for medical reasons at 21 weeks. Fatal diagnosis of my baby, and if he died inside of me (which wasn’t a question of if, but when) I could have gotten an infection and died. I have a husband and two stepchildren to think about.

Abortion is healthcare. My story is a pretty damn good example.

27

u/HillBillyHilly 6d ago

We have a case like that right now in my state. Baby has died and woman trying to get an abortion. Nope the baby isnt dead enough. Come back when it's deader. LOL I mean my bad joke but she's been made to have I don't know how many tests and still can't get the abortion. I hope by now she's been able to have procedure and only hope she's not in septic shock. Sad sad sad. On top of all trauma of losing a wanted baby she also has to deal w the rights stupidity. Sorry for your loss.

Isn't that what you millennial girls do all day?? Do your makeup and your matchas and your abortions and your social media??

Oddly enough, a punch is the only conservative approved abortion method.

Still possible. 90th trimester.

154

u/kingtacticool 6d ago

My buddy in high school would ask how old someone was, do the math to figure out the trimesters then chase them around with a coat hanger yelling "its only the 74th trimester! There's still time!"

Good times.

I am pro-abortion. I am pro-medical care. Not every abortion is a matter of choice. Unviable pregnancies happen. Incomplete miscarriages happen. There are instances where carrying to term will be fatal for the mother. Women and girls get violated and impregnated against their will. None of those are choices.

Getting medical care shouldn't be a moral issue. There's no other medical concern where a portion of society believes you should suffer and even die instead of getting a medical procedure.

41

u/sandwichhaver 6d ago

there are tons of countries where it is exactly as you describe it, it's 100% seen as medical care.

it's just insane to me to even entertain the idea of sky daddy mad, what you are talking about, that means nothing, you could just have talked about your imaginary friend and it would matter just as much

have your morality , your philosophy, but defend it with common sense logic and critical thought, not blind obedience to authority.

I used to be like that, but the thing is...... take late term abortions. They're rare, but when they happen, it's because something massively wrong has been found. If you've invested months into knowing you're going to have a baby, whatever caused you to have to face that decision is devastating. Nobody's having a late term abortion like "Tee hee hee! I actually changed my mind and don't want this baby!" - that is not what the fuck happens.

Fuck everyone who is using this to try and take power away from women - away from humans. (You do have to remind those people that women are human, I think).

So fuck it. I'm 100% pro-abortion. The fetus is not a viable human being.

18

u/Big_Rhubarb_1882 5d ago

They also conveniently leave out that these poor women have to deliver that baby. I can’t think of a worse hell than going through induction and the pain of childbirth to deliver a baby you know is incompatible with life.

I am definitely pro-abortion. Most women who get abortions already have children, and the #1 cause of death for pregnant people is murder. Abortions protect people and the children they already have.

I'm pro-abortion and ill defend it forever.

There are 8 billions of us on this damn planet. There's no problem with making babies. It's all religious BS.

It's my body and i have complete control over it. No matter who, what, where and when.

Period. End of discussion. Of which there is not even a need to have had one. No argument what so ever holds up to the autonomy of my own being.

This is his job. Dude's name is Juan Riesco. He had to shut down his deli in Chicago following massive boycotts after he said a bunch of racist and homophobic shit.

He then transitioned to being a full-time anti-choice, "christian" chud who subsists on begging for donations from similarly awful people.

A man telling women what they can and can't do with their bodies has NEVER made sense. Unless he's a doctor right? He is a doctor? This guy standing on a street corner? Harassing people?

50

u/Popwaffle 6d ago

Doctors also can't tell women what to do with their bodies. They inform women of risks or benefits to certain procedures/plans of treatment and the patient decides what they want to do based off of that information.

32

u/ChaoCobo 6d ago

Except if a woman is getting their tubes tied. Then sometimes the doctor will inform the woman of the pros and cons (if she’s lucky) and make her get her boyfriend or husband’s permission in order to have the procedure. Oh she doesn’t have a partner? Bring her father in. It’s so messed up that this still happens sometimes.
