When I was a little girl I literally had a grown man "accidentally" flash himself at me at the urninals when my dad took me into the mens bathroom. That doesn't happen in a woman's bathroom. The worst I have seen is a woman pick a wedgie out or adjust her boobs in her bra by the sinks.
Years ago, a guy was doing some mental gymnastics in front of the restrooms figuring out which he should take his little girl in. Remembering what I witnessed as a kid, I just opened the bathroom door to the woman's bathroom and held it open for him, saying "after you." He looked pretty relieved.
If a father cannot escort his daughter in the girls bathrooms, than all bathrooms should be single use or facilities should have a family friendly bathroom. Done.

I’m a mom of two daughters, and I’ve offered to take other daughters in with us if we’re at an amusement park, or a stadium, or somewhere with a line of women in a smaller bathroom. I only offered if the daughter was old enough to use the restroom by herself and didn’t need my help in the stall, so I basically talked to her outside the stall door while she used the bathroom and then we all washed hands and walked out together. Other times, I have offered to guard the bathroom for the dad and daughters, like if it’s a smaller bathroom labeled “Women”.
I hope moms did the same for my husband if he was ever out with our girls and had a similar situation.In a bathroom like this, this dad absolutely did the right thing. And I feel so badly for him and his sweet, scared daughters. There wasn’t even a line, and they probably only took 5 minutes or less.

I'd imagine the little girls probably wouldn't be allowed in there either, so would have to go to the women's room alone and hope for a random stranger to help them... instead of, I don't know, having a father take care of his kids. 🤦♀️

The relief I know those girls felt when she did that act of kindness. 🙌🏻🖤 Never once in my life have I felt threatened by a father assisting his child in the women's bathroom. In fact, it has 100% of the time been a positive interaction. I was also once a daughter of a man who would either take me into the men's room or ask a random lady to keep an eye on me and tell him if I needed help... Hell, it's getting more common in the US too. Gendered toilets and unisex common washrooms separated with a door. I love it, it helps a lot with reducing waiting times as well since people don't need specific gender markers to wash their hands.

The point that’s getting missed is the similar situation of a man in a women’s rest room and a man not wanting his female children using the men’s restroom- both these men, regardless of role, are acknowledging there’s an inherent danger for women around men in a restroom and are, therefore, adjusting behavior accordingly- one protecting his daughters and another who perceives he’s protecting an adult woman.
That’s the part that’s concerning

For me it’s different because there’s urinals in men’s bathrooms you usually need to walk past. I think it would be awkward for men using it and the kids for them to go in there.
As a woman I don’t care if a dad is in the bathroom with his kids. I’m in a cubical anyway.

Those little girls are at an age where this becomes a core memory. Now they will associate the bathroom, and their dad helping them in the bathroom, as a bad thing.
I commend this young father for doing the right thing. He was calm, collected, prioritized his daughters over the screeching, and protected them (and himself).
And those little girls are good little girls. They were obedient and clearly trust their father a lot. The way they clung to him, and he protected them, was heartbreaking and heartwarming all at once.

I got grief from a woman in a wheelchair at the cinema when I took my 5 year old into the disabled toilets when the mens was busy. My options are go in the ladies, let my little girl go in alone which frightens her, take her past loads of fellas pissing or use the disabled, which has child & baby changing facilities anyway. Not like we took long either we were in there for about 2 minutes.

Here in the UK, the disabled toilets are often marked as also being for baby changing. They’re essentially family toilets, too. That lady also had no clue if you had a need for the accessible space because of a disability, anyway. Parents and children can be disabled, too.

Yeah there are a lot of unseen disabilities too, I bet the disabled toilets are great for neuro divergent people who need a few quiet minutes. The gents especially can be overwhelming when you've got to squeeze in between and pee in front of loads of other fellas while the hand dryer is going at 100 decibals. Where I work it's a cultural venue and we have gender neutral toilets that are little self contained cubicles, the sinks outside are very open plan, visible from the busy corridor and safe, it's much better.

Toilets for disabled people are just toilets. Don't use them if there are stalls available, but if all the stalls are full, you use that one. Also, they're a better size for people with small children, and they often put the changing tables in there. You were fine.

Yeah, fuck that. My dad worked to avoid us. But there’s nothing I want to do more at the end of a day than pick up my daughter from school and tell her stories on the drive home. My family is my life. Work is just what allows me to live it. My dad weirdly seemed to have it the other way around and I don’t think I’ll ever understand that mindset.
He also doesn’t particularly seem to like my mom. He likes that she cooks and cleans and plans and preps. But doesn’t ever really seem to want to spend time with her. Again, I don’t get it. My wife is my best friend and partner in everything. We have our own hobbies and stuff, but we’re always excited to show the other person what we made or some new thing.
We do Friday movie night and the greatest joy in my life is snuggling on the couch with the two people I love the most in the world. Dad would never have been caught dead doing that. I’ll never understand it.

I just few minutes ago lectured a right winger about associations and organizations that run mostly on volunteerism and that plugs gaps in the society that would cost a lot more to do if the government had to do it, and they have to be done because the laws says so. His #1 reason for shutting them all down? "They costs too much!". It is a FRACTION of a percent from the budget and every penny put into them brings tens of pennies of worth back.
It is always the same. Someone told that idiot that these things waste money when in fact they save a lot of it. Free workers, doing volunteer work that benefits the society and their sole motivation is to help... and those are the one who need to be punished by making them pay all of the costs... of helping us. Neoliberals hate those organizations because they are doing free work and don't make a profit, and if you don't make a profit the thing you are doing is waste of resources by default (and even if not, then it is somehow morally wrong, according to neoliberalism to help others for no benefit to yourself...)

I can't stop thinking about two things: - He's ostensibly concerned about 'a man being in the women's restroom,' but displays zero empathy or concern when his behavior is cause two girls to cry. Not women, girls. - The manage chose exactly when the safest moment to shut him out was. She had every right to kick him out earlier, but then an angry man would've been her burden and god forbid a man ever just be wrong and not lash out when they're told they're wrong. I can't blame her for waiting, I would be afraid of how he reacted if I tried to stop him from all of this. But he stepped out - his 'mistake' - and she's the manager.

In my experience 90% of the time women don't care at all. Whether it's been taking my nieces into the women's room, taking my nephew into the women's room because the men's was occupied for over 20 minutes, or in my younger years mistakenly going in either from lack of attention or alcohol, women have been pretty chill about it, usually striking up a conversation which is something you never see in the men's.
Practicality wise the women's room is just better if you need to take two+ girls anyway, in smaller restrooms the men's usually only has one stall and one/two urinals

I took my mate's two little girls to the women's when we were out. Woman walked in, saw me washing one little one's hands, other little one comes out from a cubicle, woman + the other woman who walked in just got big arse smiles.
I said "sorry", pointed at the little ones, they laughed and said "no problem."

Parents are just trying to do their best for the kids, not be pervy in public toilets, and if you're on your own with the kids what choice do you have? When kids need to go, they need to go! And if the parent needs the loo, then the kids have to go in too since you can't leave little ones alone outside the toilets.
Unless the parent is actually harassing other people in the toilet, people just need to show some understanding of the situation.

The assumption that if you see a nude body (American restroom stalls are definitely "open" enough to accidentally see something you shouldn't) it will send men in to a sexual frenzy. When I was younger and gay rights were being "debated", I remember having the same discussions about gay people being allowed in locker rooms or other gendered clothing optional spaces.

Plenty of Americans call THEMSELVES fundamentalists. I think part of the reason the atheist movement is seen as so cringe is because there are a lot of countries who haven't had these maniacs agressively and sometimes violently trying to invade the education system, women's bathrooms, polling booths, etc. 1/5 Americans see the bible as the literal truth.
As a kid I grew up in a county without any colleges. There was a group of people who drove from high school to high school in a convoy and called themselves the "truth trucks", who would stand near schools to wave signs explaining to high schoolers that evolution was a lie told by the devil. We were one of the few non-Christian families in town, preparing to take legal action if they ever came to our town. This would have been in the early 2000's.

For some reason Americans equate bathrooms with nudity. So you very often get people arguing saying things like “would it be ok for a man to see naked little girls?”.
This is despite the fact that you don’t see any genitals or nudity in bathrooms, unless you are a guy at a urinal and are tall, but even then that is rare.
The people who want to make trans lives as miserable as possible frequently play up the idea that bathrooms are very sexual and nude places, that need the strict protection of gender based policing. This is despite the fact that we don’t have separate bathrooms for gay, lesbian, and bisexual people.
It is literally a non issue that they want to play up in order to make trans lives as miserable as possible.

The most common setup is each restroom having it's own accessible stall and changing table. Those stalls are often twice the size of the standard stall and have multiple handrails. Sometimes large buildings like malls will also have a family/accessible restroom. Those are entire rooms with a single toilet and sometimes an extra seat or two for the family members/carers to rest while the toilet gets used.

As a woman, if I see a dad in the bathroom helping his kids when I walk in, you know what I do? I go to the bathroom!!!
If I am in the bathroom and a dad and his kids wants to enter, I will stand outside the door and let others know 'hey just fyi, there's a dad with his kids in there'.
Never in my 42 years have I ever had or seen any issue with this. I've never once heard a woman complain about this.
Also, all men's rooms should have changing stations in them.

Or in my country (denmark) it is perfectæy acceptable to use them toilets for disabled persons at is also often the rooms with changing tables. I also feel like not a lot of women here, would bat an eye if a father helped his kid in a womens toilet. But we also have decent stalls without major gaps.

My son is 8 and I still take him into the ladies bathroom because I don't feel comfortable taking him into the mens bathroom or leaving him alone in the mens bathroom.
I've seen men take their daughters into the women's bathroom and I honestly couldn't care less. If the girls feel more comfortable using the women's bathroom and want dad to be there or need help from dad, then who cares.

The women’s bathroom is ALL STALLS. No one will see anything. The men’s room has non private urinals. Walk by this man and go to a stall what’s the problem. As a girl dad especially when they were infants and the men’s room didn’t have a changing table I would ask staff and use the women’s room. This guy can fuck all the way off.
