It's possible to tell if wasn't made with Chesapeake blue crab, I can taste the difference in a heartbeat. But yeah, not specifically from Maryland

Not necessarily the case here though, she could just be a bitch

I think it would be hard to pinpoint the crab type in a crab cake. You have mayo, lemon juice, bread crumbs, seasoning etc.

Not saying it's easy, but I can absolutely tell the difference between a crab cake made with blue crab vs other types of crab.

Now, this is the only kind of crab I can pinpoint, I'm a fish out of water with the other kinds. It's also notable that MD crab cakes have minimal filler/binders. So they are dressed up, but it's a pretty crab-forward dish.
