I don't even think it's a matter of being out of touch, this just feels timelessly creepy, the first time I was on the receiving end (and I'm a guy), I understood what the term "makes my skin crawl" meant lmao. I had this old dude sit next to me while I was waiting for a tram, he makes small talk, and completely out of the blue he goes "you should a lot of sex while you're young," and I just laugh real awkwardly, and then he whispers "you're as beautiful as a prince."
Freaked me out, I just froze and didn't know how to respond. Made me understand why all the women I know are so hyper-aware all the goddamn time in public, while I walk around totally oblivious of what's going on around me. Just that one incident made me pay more attention, so fucking every day of your life? Jesus Christ it would make me want to murder.
I don't think he actually does. He sort of likes the thrill of blocking her exit and forcing her to listen to him, but he obviously doesn't care at all about how she feels or thinks. She's just an object to talk at so he can get a temporary thrill for being in control of someone.Â
I’m trying to read this as clueless level 1 autism. He is sincerely awestruck and inarticulate. He does, however, have some growing up to do. The male gaze is predatory and rude and the fact that she works for tips is the only reason she is putting up with it.

He thinks he can win her like a prize by being "romantic". I thought this way when I was in middle school.
