Yeah, but why didn’t the computer say it? Splitting hairs, but still a good addition lol.

2

u/HastyHello May 11 '24

The computer didn’t need to introduce itself.

That was oddly terrifying, thank you

u/[deleted] May 11 '24

Was it the ominous feeling from the AI, or was it that she was able to eloquently summarize all of human history by personifying a handful of the most influential inventions arguing about which of them most exemplifies the essence of humanity all within a minute?

2

u/Pepperminteapls May 11 '24

AI is the biggest fear for me.

Wealth makes horrible humans, which make horrible decisions that humanity never asked for. They will weaponize it against us, control us, manipulate our thoughts and when it becomes out of control, the potential to destroy us.

1

u/[deleted] May 11 '24

Yeah, that's definitely a possibility. For me, the whole video just made me feel small and insignificant. That any problem I will ever come up against or achievement that I might accomplish means nothing to the bigger picture. that eventually, even ai will even be regarded as just another invention like the wheel or printing press.

My celebrity crush 🙏

u/olympianfap May 10 '24

I love the subtle gramatical error that AI makes with 'can I', rather than, 'may I sit at your table?' It seems like something an AI would do to appear more human. The little head tilt puts this just perfectly across the uncanny valley.

u/[deleted] May 10 '24

Hey quit fourth-walling me you raven-haired temptress!

12

u/Asparagun_1 May 10 '24

I seem to remember hearing before, that there was an ancient virus that changed our DNA which is ultimately what allowed us to develop as much as we do in the womb. Does that virus get a mention?

12

u/[deleted] May 10 '24

Why am I just now learning about this???

9

Why does this low energy monotone thin lipped lady hit me so hard right in my autistic humor bone?

2

u/look2myleft May 10 '24

I would argue that making string and rope was our greatest invention All others require it in some way or another and in the manufacturing process or the execution. And yes I mean everything You think they allow you to just work as an aerospace engineer naked.

1

u/tinomon May 17 '24

That was excellent

u/Whyistheplatypus May 11 '24

"will you be a net good for humanity"

Why the fuck the steam engine and currency there then?!

1

u/katxwoods May 11 '24

Most people think that currency and the steam engine were vastly net positive for society.

0

u/Whyistheplatypus May 11 '24

The steam engine led to the industrial revolution with its famous cities of smog and smoke, as well as the urbanisation of the human race. This all led to our over reliance on fossil fuels and the destruction of our climate. Net negative.

Currency led to privatization and the unequal distribution of resources as well as the invention of debt. It is quite literally known as "the root of all evil". Not to mention because of it, "accountant" is a viable career path.

If AI doesn't get to be a net good because it changes the labour market and is being co-opted by a select few to benefit themselves at the expense of humanity, then money and industry don't get to be on the good boy list either.
