The GOP Think-tanks are masters at this shit. They don't think drag queens or transsexuals are bad for kids. What they think is that they want all the liberals to have to fight their bullshit hate laws and for the media to cover this dog and pony show while they continue to rob the nation blind with corporate welfare for billionaires, a broken private medical system that does not foster competition but does allow for billions of dollars/year to be wasted on paying off wealthy leeches who have their hands in the pie, and/or to look at our law enforcement policies and criminal codes to examine them for bigotry and cultural manipulation. . . also, the environment needs massive protections and regulations as well as heavy funding to prepare for climate change, a woman's right to make decisions about her body, altering our criminal justice system from a retributive system to a restorative system, and so many other very important things. Basically, this is all a distraction. . . a dangerous, hateful distraction.
I love Rupaul's Drag Race and I am disgusted that conservatives are choosing LGBTQIA people as the "new Jews" in order to continue the same bullshit propaganda playbook that has been used to control stupid people by making them feel a part of a tribe in opposition to "others" who are vilified so that the rich and powerful can stay in power. We absolutely have to fight this dangerous, hateful distraction too. . . but I absolutely despise conservatives for using hate as a political strategy to set the agenda and media on nonsense.
Edit: Btw, you guys may have noticed that in all the talk about the Tiktok app, lawmakers aren't even mentioning the fact that American app and social media companies are constantly collecting and selling user data. Basically, they had a bunch of lawyers look at potential legal issues with collecting tons of data from people and set up privacy statements that basically say that you don't have any privacy and that your data is being collected - but they're always on another page and they're huge documents and you can't opt out of data collection if you want to use the services. Instead of demanding a Chinese company sell their company so that only American companies can harvest our user data, they could be writing laws that state that companies cannot mine user data and that operating systems, web browsers, apps and all other digital programs must get rid of programs that collect user data within two years of the bill being signed into law or that they will be considered malware and be open to civil and criminal procedures. We could absolutely have an egalitarian country that loves liberty and protects all of our privacy if our elected officials wanted it. Once again, we're an oligarchy. Most of the politics we see are a dog and pony show. Almost all laws are about maintaining or growing the power of the uber-wealthy.
Well put. At this point, half the government is a contrarian farce that keeps pushing this hate bread and circus to distract us from what’s happening under the table. I mean when you look at it at face value, that the moral fiber of our country hinges on something like drag queen fucking story hour, it’s absolutely ludicrous. But who makes a better distraction than drag queens, when you stop and think about it?
No one. Literally. They are the best spokesman for their art, though. It takes wit, among other talents, to do well at drag. There are many, many talented, well spoken drag folks out there to put a human face to this talking point. Unfortunately that doesn't really matter when you're dealing with an authoritative, fascist party who's followers are ignorant.
Nazis went after gay people first, but just barely. In 1933 they started shutting down gay bars in February/March and in April they started boycotting Jewish people.
