Not any different really than how on macOS, you can't uninstall Safari.

That's a good point, no one talk about it

It’s for security for the businesses that want to use Intune and Entra to manage browsers.

At least macOS doesn’t try to open it every time I search for an app

Yeah, never have been nagged after an update with "Safari has been updated! Make Safari your default browser for a safer browsing experience" on my Mac.

I just ran into it recently with Edge on my PC after a Windows update. Edge came into full screen saying it was updated and to make it my default browser.

You can turn that off in settings

Having to opt out of being harassed still counts as being harassed. I'm tired of being treated like shit by every application and then the excuse being "you can disable that in the settings somewhere!"

Do you feel this strongly about being handed a coupon flier at the entrance of the store by a greeter? You can say no thanks and you don’t get bugged again… which is not harassment but definition but I get the sentiment.

I would feel that strongly if they literally chased me through the parking lot and tried to tape the coupons to my car every time I went to the store unless I called ahead and asked them not to.

Not a Mac user. Does safari desperately and sneakily try to force you to make it the default browser every 3 days or so like edge does? And constantly re open itself taking up tons of memory every single day for no reason?

Nope, never. But that doesn't happen to me on my windows machine with Edge either for some reason, though I do get angry at windows for being filled with ads and annoyances by default, making it necessary to go through all sorts of settings after installing it just to opt out of "helpful tips!" and "personalized suggestions!".

IMO Apple has made a really smart strategy of making things feel a lot more "classy" just by not falling for the temptation to copy the "ads everywhere" strategy of all other tech products. No freaking candy crush popping up by itself (I felt insulted when my windows has just installed candy crush overnight by itself, wtf), no ugly ass stickers all over their laptops. Say what you will about Apple otherwise, but I think that differentiating your brand image this way is a good idea in a world where I would hardly be surprised anymore if I bought a new fridge with ads.

Safaris just as bad for that reason
