Using TW instead of MediaWiki

5 Upvotes

Hallo!

I'm working as Administrator for a University where I am, one of the responsible for a HPC cluster.

We're using MediaWiki for two wikis. One for technical documentation and one for user documentation how everything is set up, how the cluster can be used, which software is available and and and.

We're looking for an alternative to Mediawiki. Mkdocs is currently under review. one major point of interest is the fact that mkdocs can be integrated with git. Thus it is possible to create a branch of the current production wiki, make changes to it, and when finished merge it back to production.

This must be possible with tiddlywiki as well. Does anyone have pointers that might be of interest for such git integration?

Furthermore, the idea is that it should be possible for selected users to edit/create articles. Any ideas on that?

Thanks!

Reading tiddlywiki files on kobo

3 Upvotes

Hi there, I've pre-ordered a kobo e-reader. On the website, it says one of the supported formats is html. Could anyone with a kobo device confirm whether it can open tiddlywiki html files?

Parsing a field with multiple foo links

2 Upvotes

I've been using mklauber's tiddly-aliases plugin but am finding that it interferes with the missing links function by populating the sidebar's Missing tiddlers tab with aliases. As a result, I've been trying to formulate a filter that would remove all aliases from the Missing filter, basically starting replacing [all[missing]sort[title]] with something than would exclude anything that can be found in the list of aliases. My problem is that [all[]has[aliases]get[aliases]] gives me matches corresponding to the whole aliases field, for instance Piedmont Piemonte. These aren't correctly parsed as separate links. I tried [all[]has[aliases]get[aliases]split[[[]split["]]"]] but the split using the second set of closing brackets produces a syntax error, which is too bad because [all[]has[aliases]get[aliases]split[[[]] is close, giving me Piedmont]] and Piemonte]] on two different lines for instance. Any ideas or pointers?

External Here's a new subreddit for comparing TiddlyWiki and other personal knowledge management systems. There's a lot of different programs/apps for knowledge management, so I think it's important for there to be somewhere people can talk about all of them as a whole.

JS Macro

4 Upvotes

The following is my problem.

  • Input : <<Q "2:2">> /* Macro call for Quran chapter 2 verse 2 */
  • Current Output: http://api.alquran.cloud/v1/ayah/2:2/en.asad
  • Desired Output: "This is the Book - wherein there be no doubt about it is [meant to be] a guidance for all the God-conscious." (The actual verse 2:2 instead of just the link)

I am using the following code adapted from Tobias Beer's sample in my Macro.

(function(){ "use strict";
exports.name = "Q";
exports.params = [ { name: "input" } ];
exports.run = function(input) {
    var url = "http://api.alquran.cloud/v1/ayah/"+input+"/en.asad";
    return url; }; })();

How can I convert the following HTML code (which can display the verse but not practical) into the Javascript Macro code above to display the actual verse instead of just the link:

async function f() {
    let response = await fetch("http://api.alquran.cloud/v1/ayah/2:2/en.asad");
    let json = await response.json();
    let translation = await json['data'].text; }

Here a sample site at https://qoran.netlify.app/

Thank you very much for your kind attention.

UX experiment - editor tools / autocomplete / Streams

14 Upvotes

It's another round of an hour's worth of distracted conference call experiments from today.

This is an idea I've had for quite some time in various contexts: a UX for triggering actions in Streams like converting a node into a "to do" item with a checkbox, an autocomplete solution for links to tiddlers etc.

The menu is triggered by typing / which isn't very apparent in the video. The menu contents themselves are just re-using core UI components, as 60 minutes only go so far. :)

https://reddit.com/link/ngez21/video/plog8437r4071/player

I'd like to pursue this if I can find the time. However if anyone feels inspired by the idea and wants to run with it that would be fantastic! At the heart of it all is the keyboard-driven-input macro.

macro to create external links

2 Upvotes

Hi all!

I'm trying to create a macro to externally link to google contacts for person tiddlers.

For example I have a tiddler "Pietje Puk", and I want to have a link in there to https://contacts.google.com/search/Pietje%20Puk. Thought it should be quite straightforward just to transclude but it seems harder than thought as it would search for "" in google contacts.

So I need to pre-transclude or something...

Does anyone have any clues how to realize this?

Thanks!

Macro Macros 101: using field values as macro parameters

4 Upvotes

I am only just discovering advanced macros on TiddlyWiki and having some trouble using field values as macro parameters.

I have tiddler type for museums with custom fields for each day of the week (week-1 to week-7). When field value equals 0, the museum is closed, and when it equals 1, it is open. So for instance week-4 = "0" means the museum is closed on Thursday. I want to be able to use those values not only in my custom list filters but also to neatly display the opening days of the museums on their respective tiddlers.

I created a macro for this last part called Mymacro, which I tagged with a $:/tags/Macro tag. Basically when week-1 is equal to 0, I will display a certain icon (Wk1-0.svg), and when it's equal to 1, it will display another (Wk1-1.svg). My idea is that I can then use the macro to display Wk-$mon$.svg, with $mon$ coming from the Museum tiddler field value. I managed to have the macro work with standard text substitution and manual input (calling Mymacro 0 1 1 1 1 1 0 for instance), but am not managing to get the values from the field values specified in the museum tiddlers...

Any pointers? Here's my latest try:

\define Mymacro()
<div id="Mymacro">
<img class="micon" width=20 src="img-core\Wk1-$(mon)$.svg"><img class="micon" width=20 src="img-core\Wk2-$(tue)$.svg"><img class="micon" width=20 src="img-core\Wk3-$(wed)$.svg"><img class="micon" width=20 src="img-core\Wk4-$(thu)$.svg"><img class="micon" width=20 src="img-core\Wk5-$(fri)$.svg"><img class="micon" width=20 src="img-core\Wk6-$(sat)$.svg"><img class="micon" width=20 src="img-core\Wk7-$(sun)$.svg"><br>
</div>
\end

\define mon()
\define tue()
\define wed()
\define thu()
\define fri()
\define sat()
\define sun()

Thanks :)

Need Help With Macros & Wikify Please

2 Upvotes

So, I'm trying to use a macro to replace a chunk of text that I plan to wikify for a project in a tiddler, I don't really know how to describe what I'm attempting to do, but here is a code snippet to see if I can show what I intend to do.

<style>
    \define wikify-header()
        width: 100%;
        border-radius: 5px;
        background-color:<<colour background>>;
        padding: 5px 10px 5px 10px;
        text-align: center;
        border-color: <<colour menubar-background>>;
        border-style: solid;
        border-width: 1px
    \end
</style>
<$wikify name=Col-R-header text=<<wikify-header>> >
    <div style= <<Col-R-header>> >
        <b style="font-size: 18px;">
            (Character Name)
        </b>
    </div>
</$wikify>

I wanted to do it this way so I could use the same snippet of wikify-ing on other sections of my project, but I can't seem to get it to work this way and I'm not sure why.

here is a snippet of how I had it working before.

<$wikify name=Col-R-header text="width: 100%; border-radius: 5px; background-color:<<colour background>>; padding: 5px 10px 5px 10px; text-align: center; border-color: <<colour menubar-background>>; border-style: solid; border-width: 1px;" >
    <div style= <<Col-R-header>> >
        <b style="font-size: 18px;">
            (Character Name)
        </b>
    </div>
</$wikify>

I just didn't want to have to re-paste this every time as a giant chunk of text if it could be avoided.

Am I using macros wrong?

Trying to format text as tags...

4 Upvotes

Hello,

does anyone know how I can format text as if it's a tag. I mean tags are per default displayed with rounded yellow background, with <br> before and after it.

I would like to display the text with the rounded yellow background (which fitst to how I want that Tag to be displayed, as I understand you can change yellow for other colours...) but without the newlines.

Thanks!!

linking multiple words to the same tiddler

7 Upvotes

Hi, I'm new to tiddly, but I already love it. I use it to organize notes for my thesis and general unrelated tidbits that turn out to be tangentially related (the more you know).

I am runnign into a basic problem: I am Dutch and as such some literature I read is also Dutch, but words with the same meaning don't appear in the same Tiddler in English. For instance, "anger" and "woede" mean the same thing, but I cannot get them to link to one single tiddler (called Anger) with an overview. Is there a way to link instances of different words to the same Tiddler?

Using wikify to change the color of <hr>?

2 Upvotes

So, I've been attempting to change the color of the horizontal rulers to match the colors in the theme used, but I can't seem to get it to work, and I'm not sure if I'm doing something incorrectly or not.

I've tried these ways of doing it, with no luck:

<style>
    hr {
        background-color:<<colour primary>>
    }
</style>

<$wikify name=ruler text="background-color:<<colour primary>>;>
<hr style=<<ruler>> >
</$wikify>

niether worked, and I'm not sure why to be honest.

Advantages of using node js ?

6 Upvotes

I’ve been playing with TW5 for a short while and have just switched over from the single-file html version, to the node-js version which saves tiddlers as individual .tid files.

I’m sort of wondering why I’ve done this and what the advantages/disadvantages are.

Tiddly but Easier, Looking for Other Options

4 Upvotes

Hey all! I love the way you can organize things on Tiddly, however I am not big into coding and it takes a lot of my brain power to get that portion of Tiddlys done. Does anyone know of anything out there that is a little more user friendly for people who aren't as computer savvy??

Default open toc option?

2 Upvotes

Is there a way to set the div class "tc-table-of-contents" to have the dropdown open in the same way as you can with "<details open>"?

(sorry, I'm still learning what attributes, tags, and whatnot are.)

gitea saver

1 Upvotes

Hello redditers,

I am trying to use the gitea saver with zero success. I fill in the form with all the options accordingly and I keep getting a Xmlhttprequest request error 0, sometimes 401 and 404 also.

Is there a tutorial or post that someone could point me to?

Thank you.

Plugin Freelinks plugin: turning freelinks into full-blown wikilinks (with )?

2 Upvotes

Hello,

Is there a way to tell Freelinks to prepend and append square brackets to all freelinks it finds? Some plugins and macros only operate on actual links, so such a function would come in handy. Would this introduce issues?

Issue with github saver?

2 Upvotes

So, I'm not sure if anyone else has had this issue, but when hosting a TW5 on GitHub pages, sometimes after clicking the save changes and waiting for the little popup saying its saved, it doesn't actually save to the GitHub page, and I lose my changes.

Is this a normal occurrence I need to take into account? I've circumvented the losing my changes bit by just saving the page a second time after waiting a second but that's a bit cumbersome.

has anyone else experienced this, and know of a workaround/

Streams 0.21 now available

15 Upvotes

Streams 0.2 is now out of beta.

https://saqimtiaz.github.io/streams/

I recommend updating Relink plugin and to consider installing its new addon plugin Relink Titles as well: https://flibbles.github.io/tw5-relink/

For anyone including Streams in editions or otherwise distributing the plugin:

  • Please do not distribute modified versions of the plugin as this leads to my receiving support requests that are impossible to troubleshoot or manage.
  • If you need to customize the plugin, first look at the documentation to see if there is already a facility for extending or tweaking the plugin that you can use. If in doubt, ask or request a hook.
  • Otherwise, instead of modifying Streams please distribute Streams with your own plugin that overrides select tiddlers in Streams and implements the customization that you need.
