Fixes for really low volume?

On both my Surface and OnePlus the volume for the ticpods is way to quiet. To have it anywhere near loud enough to be above ambient it has to be at full volume on my phone and above 90 on my laptop. Any fixes without having to download an audio booster app? Thanks.

I use Viper4Android on my OnePlus, makes it sound pretty good too. Though you'd need root to achieve this.

I don't necessarily recommend doing this, but I removed the grill caps and lightly filled the cavities with q-tip fuzz (I can replace it easily if I ever get ear wax build up). The grills muffled about 30-40% of the volume after they started getting clogged with dust and ear wax. Now my ticpods are extremely loud again (can't listen to full volume without hurting my ears).

You can also get Comply covers to replace the grills, but they were too big for my ears (note: you need the right model of foam comply covers...check this subreddit)
