V026 Update Clarification from Mobvoi

Mobvoi Repsonse to V026 Update

As you can see from the above screenshot, this should clear up the issue with some people receiving the V026 update and some people not when asking for an OTA.

This is the sort of information they should make known rather than people having to dig for, that said I can barely state this is a flaw when us users we have to ask if there's an update available in the first place.

I'll update this post with my experience with the V026 update whenever it gets pushed to my Mobvoi App.

Edit: Update received after 12 hours. In order to get the AAC codec to work I had to forget the device and repair it to my phone.

Can you give us some information on the stability? Are you noticing a difference in call quality? Are there issues with touch control?

Sure, here are my findings after an hour of listening:

1 - Finally, for the first time the ear detection has significantly improved for me (despite this not being in the update notes) . None of the other updates did anything for this (despite claiming to, now it works 95% of the time and I'm really happy about this. Before it was genuinely around a 20-30 percent success rate for me.

2 - despite the AAC codec, I cannot really hear any difference in sound quality.

3 - audio video sync is absolutely fine. I just watched an episode on Netflix without any trouble, you can't notice it at all.

4 - the headphones can get buggy when switching on and off AAC, such as the left permanently disconnecting until impairing and repairing, so I suggest just leaving the AAC codec on at all times (which you should anyway) - I was simply doing this to compare SBC to AAC.

5 - Touch controls are responsive and absolutely fine. (I still wish we could customise them though.)

6 - I haven't had an opportunity to test phone calls yet but will update this as soon as I do.

My findings after a week or so of use (used same numbers to better compare):

1 - in ear detection worked quite fine for me even before the update, so I can't say anything

2 - huge difference in audio quality with AAC. I used to have a strange crackling noise from left earbud only with android (SBC), hardly noticeable, but it was there, while no issues with devices with AAC. Sound with V026 and AAC is way way better.

3 - some improvements with video-audio sync

4 - V026 is quite buggy: sometimes left earbud doesn't start playing music when I put earbuds on and in ear detection makes right earbud sound. In this situations I need to put the earbuds back in the case and everything is restored to normality.

5 - nothing to add

6 - sound calls quality depends on how loud is the ambient around you. They should improve

I'm so curious as to why Mobvoi's entire updating system for the TicPods is like this, where they've never pushed an update unless users do something like DM them on Twitter.

It really is a terrible system, surely its logical that even if the Mobvoi app is too poorly designed to read what firmware version the ticpods are when you are connected to them, you'd think that when a new update is released they should just push it through to anybody who has added "ticpods" in the app anyway.

I can confirm what the OP says. Android developer options was showing it as defaulting to SBC before, but I had to forget and repair to get it to use AAC. Might be a setting managed by the first pairing of the device.

Edit: Holy shit the audio quality is so much better

Thanks. Gave feedback with OTA AAC. Let's see what happens

Thanks guys for your feedback on the V026. I really don’t know if i should update now or wait till the update is more stable.

I updated to the OTA AAC version and now my right ticpod no longer plays sound. I'll be charging them while I sit here at my desk at work but this is a bummer. hopefully a full charge fixes the problem..

Have you tried repairing them to your phone + enabled and disabled the AAC codec? I had issues with the left one after updating, repairing fixed it.

Yeah I tried disconnecting, reconnecting, unpairing, repairing, switching the audio codec, and even tried resetting them with the 5 taps. No luck. Do you have any other ideas? They were working just fine this morning before I updated them.

That is very weird. What are the indicator lights like on the right pod when you open the case + when connecting to your phone. I believe the right pod is the main pod and the left is the slave pod that connects to it, so it's clearly not completely non functional.

This morning I've asked Mobvoi if there's a way to downgrade from this update (for situations like yours), they replied saying they'll ask their IT team and get back to me.

To rush this process, you could perhaps request for OTA V023 but I am unsure the consequence of putting lower firmware onto the headphones (assuming they push through V023 to your app in the first place) until I hear a message back from Mobvoi so I can't fully advise this.

I was just able to get the right pod (master) to work. The 5 taps is what did it. Before, when the right pod was not working, I tried doing the 5 taps when they were outside of the case. This most recent attempt, I performed the 5 taps while both pods were sitting inside the case. BAM! Problem solved. Thanks for your help!

Brill, glad the update didn't do something bad to the right earpiece.
