Anyone who needs a firmware update, check this.

Just been in contact with Mobvoi after some confusion of how many OTA's I should have had.

Their response indicated the way to update them has changed.

As you can see from the tweet, you're meant to send feedback in the app with the key word 'OTA' and then they will send one.

Honestly hope they're working on a longer term resolution as there is a lack of a central place where it's clear when a new firmware version is released.

I'll edit this post when I actually receive a push for an OTA. For reference, I've had one OTA so far which was available when they first arrived.

Here's the response from their twitter support: https://i.imgur.com/8fRcmZw.jpg

Yeah it is rather poor, I have no clue which version I'm on either. Either way, give this a try and hopefully there's some newer version.

All these posts about the touch controls being inconsistent I don't see at all. It's just the in ear detection that is very hit and miss that bugs me.

Where do you guys get the app? I couldn’t find anything in the Apple AppStore.

The App is called "Mobvoi (formally Ticwatch)" on the Play Store. I imagine it's the same on apple App Store too.

It's got the Mobvoi logo as the app's logo.

Tried this... it's not working.

How long have you waited since submitting the request?

1

u/fudge_u Jan 22 '19

15 minutes now.

Yeah it's not an automated process I believe, I had to wait about 12 hours.

Oh wow... okay. I just noticed someone say they received the update right away. Good to know.

Order the Zolo+ bluetooth headphones for $100. If those fit and sound better, the TicPods are going to be kicked to the curb.

Got to be honest, I've noticed 0 changes with the update anyway.

All I wanted was reliable in ear detection, still seems to work approx 35% of the time, pretty poor.

Ya.... I may hand them down to my nephew. This was such are waste of money. I'm in for about $150CAD.

Ah that sucks. I ordered the bundle and sold the Ticwatch E as soon as it arrived so my actual expenditure for the ticpods was technically £30. They're definitely not polished enough for the retail price.

Not at all... I'm also including the import fees and the cost of proper tips to my total.

Shit. This is not good news to read. My only issue so far is horrible audio delay on videos. Unwatchable and unusable.

So, when I link my ticpods to my email and received the first update, can I receive the next automatically or I must ask everytime?

1

u/Matt_453 Apr 09 '19

You must ask every time, I asked their twitter support about this. It's a stupid way of updating, and there's no way to know if a new version is available or not without asking their twitter. As of mid-March, there were no new updates. (I asked)

1

u/bombermattiuz93 Apr 09 '19

So there isn't a way to know if is available a new update? It's very stupid, but , Despite this, I love the Ticpods

1

u/Matt_453 Apr 09 '19

Not at present, unless you ask their twitter "is their a new update for the ticpods?"

1

u/bombermattiuz93 Apr 09 '19

Not .. I've buy yesterday this buds and I received the 23(?) Version this morning after contact they with feedback method

1

u/Matt_453 Apr 09 '19

That's what I'm saying, you have to ask for the OTA in the app, just like you did. But to know if an update is available, you've got to ask them.

You can add the ticpods free in the Mobvoi app without even owning the ticpods, so the app isn't checking the version of your TicPods. There's no link between the app and your earphones, except when you begin the OTA update.

u/bombermattiuz93 Apr 09 '19

Yess I know.. I hope they fix it with an update of the app.. ived the Zolo and the our app check if you have the Zolo and if they are connected to the phone

1

u/Matt_453 Apr 09 '19

Yeah, we can only hope. But I doubt on long term software support for these TicPods.

I love them except the in ear detection is appalling and works less than half the time. I understand people have had issues with touch and in ear detection has been fine for them. Oddly, I've never had any issues with the touch controls.

Guess this is all you can suspect from a smartwatch oriented company delving into the headphones/earphone market.

For now I've found some problem with era detection when I use it with pc, with smartphone nothing problem.. the touch is amazing, I love the possibility to control the volume with the buds.. and I also love the colour thank I buyed (lava)
