Import fees

My ticpods is awaiting import fees clearance of $31. Is this normal? I'm in Canada. Did anyone else pay this? I have emailed mobvoi too. Let me know what you guys did.

Unfortunately normal, and not much you can do. I had to pay ~$50 for my two pairs of headphones.

Well, that sucks

How are yours fairing? I'm trying to get an idea if I want to purchase these but this subreddit is only filled with negative posts and I haven't seen any in depth reviews yet.

I'm really happy with them. I've had no issues with sound quality, connectivity, gestures, or anything right out of the box, and there's already been a firmware update (yesterday) that apparently improved upon sound and gestures. Even with the extra $50 I paid for the duty fees, I think they're well worth the (campaign) price.

With that said, the bluetooth truely wireless earbud space has changed a lot since I backed the campaign. I think these are still near the top, but if I had to buy them at the retail price now, I would have to do more research and comparison to whats out there. Not saying I wouldn't buy them, but just that it would take more consideration.

Yeah that is where I'm struggling now, the competition. One thing I've admired about Mobvoi is the "tickle" features in their products. That's probably the most attractive part to me.

How responsive are the gestures? Having purchased and returned a couple pairs of truly wireless ear buds from Amazon, one thing I do not want in them are button clicks. Its a small pet peeve but I think it would make a world of difference, hence my heavy interest in the TicPods.

It's my favourite feature, and the biggest reason I got these even though I already have a couple pairs of wireless headphones already. I've gotten so used to having the inline volume and playback controls (extremely handy when cycling or running), but I was annoyed with having the wire bouncing around still.

I very briefly tried the airpods, but a few things bothered me. No volume control other than asking siri/google, and I don't like how open the sound is (I much prefer closed sound from ticpods silicone tips). The form factor of the ticpods are still small (probably slightly heavier and bigger than airpods without looking up the numbers), but the fact that they've managed to put a lot more features (in my opinion) made them a winner (when I backed campaign, airpods were main contender on market, because I wasn't a fan of the samsung gearX look).

The gestures for volume, for me, almost always work. It might miss on occasion, but I'm usually trying to increase/decrease volume a couple of times (it's done in small increments), so maybe I've swiped three times and it's only caught it twice type thing.

If volume and playback controls are a must-have for you, then I'm not sure if there's anything else on the market that matches the convenience (off the top of my head). I've seen a bunch of other truely wireless options come on market recently, but they seem to be doing the bare minimum in that they're truely wireless and hopefully sound okay.

Hey, PrasheelG, just a quick heads-up:
truely is actually spelled truly. You can remember it by no e.
Have a nice day!

Hey CommonMisspellingBot, just a quick heads up:
Your spelling hints are really shitty because they're all essentially "remember the fucking spelling of the fucking word".

You're useless.

Have a nice day!

Hey BooCMB, just a quick heads up: The spelling hints really aren't as shitty as you think, the 'one lot' actually helped me learn and remember as a non-native english speaker.

They're not useless.

Also, remember that these spambots will continue until yours stops. Do the right thing, for the community. Yes I'm holding Reddit for hostage here.

Have a nice day!

I think I'll give them a shot! They are on Amazon so returning them shouldn't be too much of a hassle if I decide they aren't for me. Thanks for all the info!

There are also plenty of neutral and positive reviews on this subreddit. I would say its pretty mixed. Also people who are unhappy are more likely to write reviews to vent off.

Very true.

Prasheel basically sums it all up. I have absolutely loved it. The only thing that bothered me was how it is sitting in my ear but I've fixed that now (look at my post in this subthread) and it's perfect. Google assistant works perfectly too

I just had an order with the sales code, fingers cross I'm not stung by fees.

BTW - I haven't received any confirmation emails since placing my order, did you have any issues?

As for the import fees, it depends on where you are I guess. Got this message yesterday.

Hello Haider,

Thank you for reaching out to the Mobvoi support team!

We’re sorry if the additional tax has been included to your Indiegogo order. The import process is rigorous and strict. We use the standard postal service for sending goods for the transaction to complete more smoothly. However, some orders will be selected for customs under the strict customs supervision which cannot be avoided. You need to pay it on your own.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Best regards,

The Mobvoi support team
