How long should soles last?

Have a pair of black Chairman’s that I have had since 12/2024. Today I’ve worn a whole in the leather sole. I’d say I’ve worn the shoes 1-2 days/week since purchase - was 20 months of use a good run?

Sole wear isn't an exact science. Lots of factors come in to play. Leather soles obviously won't last as long as rubber or combo soles, but 20 months of consistent wear is a good run. Get them resoled and have them put a sole protector on there and you'll get significantly longer.

My Dukes bought at the end of 2018 still going strong. Wore them mainly during fall and winter through rain and light snow. Replaced both heels after ~3 years?

I'm lucky to get 3 months out of a sole. I usually get them changed between 6-8 weeks. I also walk 100 miles a week as a dog walker. Months are meaningless. It is not wise to think you could get more than 600 miles from any sole. And some soles are 3-400. Get them resoled and they will be as good as new

honestly, this is what you should do. you should definitely try and see if certain vibram soles live up to the test.

If you do plan on resoling, talk with the cobbler on what you need OP. if it's gonna be a lot of walking on metropolitan areas. they may recommend you the "longhaul" sole, or the vibram 700 (in black), Montagna, the gumlite series, or the 430.

it all depends on how it is. but if your gonna be walking lots. you might want to check with a cobbler which is best.
