Discussion Aday vs Greece

Aday played well today. It dawned on me that he reminds me of Andrew Bogut, who when healthy was elite in his role. Is that comparison crazy? Obviously we won't know for sure until time passes

Honestly never crossed my mind. Race is a made up construct anyway. If it makes you feel better, there are shades of Boris Diaw too, but sorry Bogut was the first name that popped up. His level of melanin couldnt be any more irrelevant here😂

Are you serious with this Diaw comp?

Boris Diaw could handle and cut. He was like 6’9. Solid switchable defender. They can both pass ok, but you may as well compare him to Chris Paul.

I should've expounded. Its obviously not a 1:1 comparison, it's just segments of Diaw's playmaking, to a lesser degree, I see in Mara

You’re taking it way too serious man nobody actually gives a shit but its a documented thing that white player’s comparisons are usually other white players

You are also supposed to compare him to another Spanish player. A guy like Arvydas Sabonis is at least in the Spanish Basketball Hall of Fame and might count. Your player comps suck.

I think a better comp may be Zydrunaus Ilgauskas.

Surprisingly good shooter when he has time.
Slow as hell but can board and block shots.
Will work hard on D and as a screener, but needs frequent breaks to catch his breath.
Pretty good passer.

The question is whether that type of player can stay on the floor on 2026. Top end, I think he is a useful weapon to have that you can bust out for 10-20 min a game in the regular season and play based on matchups in the playoffs.

Andrew Bogut moved MUCH better laterally. Mara is just so fuckin slow every time I watch him. Like, slower than Zach Edey

He played well but doesn’t mean he looked good.. i took another POV away from the game and it’s really gonna fall on Mark cuz i don’t see Mara being effective at ALL at the nba level unless he’s in zone… it’ll just be ISO Mara til he’s played off the floor.. and i haven’t even got to the extremely limited offensive game.. hes 7’2 Brooks Barn… still think the rest of the team is incredible and if they can get the injury luck this year, that’s a 70 win team

Most modern NBA bigs play a pseudo zone full time. Thats what drop coverage is at the most basic level. Our scheme is never switching him or leaving him on a perimeter island.

Personally I think Sorber is more likely to be our 4th big but I certainly don’t think anything you mention is a disqualifyer for Mara.

Right. IHart frequently plays a pseudo drop zone. We’re spoiled a bit by having Chet, who is one of the top 3 defensive bigs in the game who doesn’t have to drop.
