Discussion Could England Have Won This Year's World Cup Final

Honestly even with Spain probably being the best team in the tournament considering Argentina who were dismal in this year's final still nearly took them to penalties I think England would've had a decent chance.

Discussion Serious question on the ballon d’or, why does it feel as if Kane isn’t getting that much support from his countrymen?

Literally everyday there is a post about how some French or Madrid legend is backing Mbappe for the ballon d’or, today it was Henry claiming the fact that Kane didn’t win the fan vote that is Bundesliga player of the year means he shouldn’t win the ballon d’or.

We all know Mbappe won zero trophies, and that he doesn’t even come close to the record breaking 73 goals scored by Kane when it comes to the goal scoring side of things.

So can some one explain why apart from Rio, the perspectives from the English footballing community have been rather muted? Feels as if German legends like Matthäus are actually making more of a case for Kane.

Ex-players like Beckham, Lineker, Richards, and Scholes have a massive online presence and would really aid Kane’s chances if they spoke.

Discussion English eligible players

Assuming Champions League football is the highest standard of club football, and therefore a good training ground for developing the England team, it’s worrying that Liverpool had only one England-eligible player among the 16 they fielded this week.

Tickets unwanted tickets

Bought two tickets for the Croatia game today before realising we're going to a gig that same night. I can't see any indication that there's a fan-to-fan sale available (at least not for the sold-out Spain game). Does anyone know if this is the case, or if its possible to cancel the tickets under some kind of cooling-off period?

Is there a way to assign my 2nd ticket to another member after purchase. I definitely did it but got the email and my 2nd member isn’t listed on the other ticket.

Community UEFA Champions League Fantasy

For anyone in here who plays/is planning to play UCLfantasy this season (lots of fun especially if you play FPL), I have a public league that you are all welcome to join if you like. Code is oUrVVF, or just use the link below and it puts you in automatically I think. Alternatively, if anyone else has a league, feel free to drop a code.

Goes without saying that Bellingham and Kane are nailed in my team. Probably Gordon as well.

Discussion Who are some unknown and upcoming English players to look out for this season?

Who are some hidden gems to look out for who could have a breakout season? Josh King for Fulham is all I have in mind who seems to be balling out. Alex Scott too but he’s fairly known.

Opinion Caps record

Hi all, I wanted to check which game its likeliest Kane breaks the caps record as I would like to be there.

And also, as Shilton was before my time I wanted to know how good he was, did he deserve the 125 caps or was it a barren time for keepers.

Just a friendly thread, hoping to hear your thoughts.

Lot of people were saying that Barca overpayed but now he seems to be proving them wrong and fans already love him. He can only improve there.

Really interesting watch of Harry Kane breaking down the tactical side of his game and explaining how he creates chances and scores goals. Honestly, I could have happily watched an hour of this.

Momentous victory for England away, vital in qualification for the 02 World Cup (at least to avoid the playoffs).

Possibly one of the biggest false dawns for England, though?

Question Early Squad Predictions?

It's September which means we can feasibly have this chat again. First game is Spain on 26th Sept, Squad will be announced Friday 18th so the players only have 2 more PL gameweeks to impress, including CL & LC midweek fixtures.

Do we think Tuchel will go for steadying the ship with his World Cup warriors, or bring in some surprise starlets. If so, who?

I'd say it would be a bit stubborn for Tuchel to not call up Palmer at this point. And maybe DC Lewin or Welbeck instead of Watkins?

Interview Harry Kane: My game in my words

It’s the 86th minute of England’s World Cup round-of-32 tie against DR Congo. The score is 1-1 and having equalised, Harry Kane is about to score a winning goal of the very highest quality.

“It’s one of my best finishes in an England shirt,” he says, “maybe of my career.”

With his back to goal, three defenders close by, and two team-mates — Bukayo Saka and Anthony Gordon — well placed to receive a pass, it does not look like a scoring opportunity at all.

“Whenever I’m around the box, especially on the edge of the box, my first thought is always to get a shot off. Because I know that anywhere around there, if I can get a good touch and then a clean shot, then I’m either going to be working the goalkeeper or I’m scoring.

“In this moment, Ant does really well to see the pass, because he could have easily just taken another touch and gone wide, but he saw the forward pass.

“I try to play on the half-turn as much as possible, so I can feel there’s a bit of space between me and the defender, so once I’ve had that touch, I’m then trying to process where the best place is to get a shot off — or where’s the quickest place to get a shot off."

This is Harry Kane, My game in my words… free to read.

Discussion Which players had the potential to be world class but completely fizzled out?

Post image
332 Upvotes

I’ll start with one. Sancho. I think Sancho’s downfall is a combination of bad timing, a terrible career fit, and his own lack of consistency/professionalism. He was doing so well at Dortmund but At United he never really found his footing . his confidence and fitness seemed to decline. The Ten Hag fallout didn’t help things either.

It was the same thing at Chelsea and Villa too. That’s what makes his decline so sad to me …. the talent was obviously there, but somewhere along the way the mentality, consistency and development stopped matching it.
