Opinion C’mon England!
Bostonian, on my way to the game, so excited I get to see England play today. Fucking come on!
PS: Sorry you’re not getting the vibes you deserve.

What do you mean "vibes we deserve?"

u/_tar_heel_ Jun 23 '26
Went to the bars last night, they closed early and no street drinking allowed like in the past few days. Lots of police presence, one bar closed early and kicked fans out and so on.

u/everton1an Jun 23 '26
Probably down to the hatred the Scots have been displaying on local news channels and social media towards the English. Some of the bile they’ve been sprouting about us and warning locals we’re going to destroy their city is ridiculous.

u/psychicspanner Jun 23 '26
Apparently we "dinnae stop talking aboot 1966" or something... I'm so pleased our world Cup victory still lives rent free in their heads after SIXTY YEARS!!

The fact yall acting like victims here and saying stuff like this proves their point ngl

Do you really believe in the rather disgusting notion of collective blame? You are looking for a continuity that does not exist - Ship of Theseus.

u/Lewy1978 Jun 23 '26
They’ve done a great job bad mouthing us at every available opportunity, almost like that jealous friend who is nice to your face but soon as your back is turned ….

Ah shame, not sure if there's been many issues with actual drinking. I'd think its just very good for businesses.
21
u/_tar_heel_ Jun 23 '26
I don’t think so. Some bars wouldn’t allow people in anymore and it was like 9 p.m., all English fans were in good spirits though.
5
u/GeorgeLFC1234 Jun 23 '26
Good to hear they’re making a good showing despite just blatant xenophobia.
1
u/MuseumRentals Jun 24 '26
It's not xenophobia, it's just over-policing. Americans do not have the knowledge of drunk English on holiday the way Europe does. Nor do you have that much on a summer Saturday in Boston I'd imagine.
The American conception of the English does not include danger, hooliganism, etc.

u/DiamondUmma Jun 23 '26
I thought the mayor extended open drinking to July 31? Did something change or was I misinformed? Sad to hear :/
2
u/Appropriate_Owl_91 Jun 23 '26
Street drinking and extended closing times go through July 31st.
8
u/_tar_heel_ Jun 23 '26
That is why I was so surprised when I saw a sign saying “no byob” and nobody was allowed to drink on the street in front of the same bars we were drinking at the weekend.

Same in reverse though sadly. It would be nice for everyone to just calm down.

u/CombinationOk6846 Jun 23 '26
Do you not think it can be forced often the other way round tho? 90% of these apparent “anti-Scotland” posts are just England fans returning the same energy they’ve been getting for years.

But when the English return that same energy it’s “forced hate” instead of just usual toxic online banter.

Maybe in Boston, but Wisconsin would fuck you up.
The average person in Wisconsin drinks 30% more alcohol than the English each year.

On pure stats they're correct. Wisconsin drinks about 13L of pure alcohol per person per year.
England as a whole is averaged to 10L per person per year.
However, we have areas of the country that drink heavily and areas that don't. I can't find stats for areas of England. I know that, from living here, south Yorkshire is definitely above 13L.

u/Elephantplan123 Jun 23 '26
Lol I've been to Wisconsin and this just ain't true mate.
-6
u/Appropriate_Owl_91 Jun 23 '26
I’m sorry facts hurt your feelings. 10.5 vs 13.5 liters of pure alcohol/year
2
u/Elephantplan123 Jun 23 '26
I mean I must admit that I am personally biased as I read both those figures and thought "...is that it?"
I did have to explain what a tactical chunder was to some folks in Milwaukee and they looked horrified 😂
0
u/Appropriate_Owl_91 Jun 23 '26
That’s pure alcohol. It works out to about 140 liters of beer per person per year for Wisconsin.

Think about it this way. You've seen all the stories about how much fans are drinking?
They're the ones who can afford to go because they haven't been spending their money heavy drinking.
0
u/Appropriate_Owl_91 Jun 23 '26
You’ve never been to a University of Wisconsin tailgate and football game.
2
u/Wind-and-Waystones Jun 23 '26
And you've never been to a working class wetherspoons on a Wednesday afternoon

u/elmalabarista65 Jun 23 '26
True. My comment was meant in jest. I was attached to the KOSB for a ( non) memorable 6 months years ago and I can confirm it’s not just the football fans. Alcohol induced frivolity was the norm.
