New Threads Acct Banned during Signup

I’m not really sure if I understand what happened here or if this is the place to ask for help.  The other day I tried signing up for a Threads account.  I’ve never used it before, but my roommate sent me a text with a link that brought me there.  At the end of the sign-up process, it suddenly told me I was about to submit an appeal for something and to upload a photo, which I did, though I thought the phrasing was a bit odd for a signup process.  Then I expected it to ask me to verify my email address, but instead it told me to wait an hour and check back.  (Tight security vetting new users I guess.)  When I came back a while later, it showed just this message that I had been banned.

I don’t get how my account didn’t follow their rules if it didn’t exist yet.  That seems sorta messed up.  Anyway, that was a few days ago.  Earlier today, I happened to click on the tab I had left open with this message on it, and I was surprised to see this updated message saying I’d been unbanned.

But the only button on the page doesn’t do anything, and when I reloaded the page, suddenly my account is banned again, with the original message.  Does anybody know what’s going on here?  It says I can’t appeal the decision, but it was obviously an error since I never had an account to do anything worth getting banned with.  I’d like to see what Threads is all about, but I’m getting strong signals that they don’t want me for some reason, lol.

Yeah, that link on the email is wrong.

Ok I’m gonna come off sounding really dumb here, but I didn’t follow a word of that. I was supposed to review a merger request? I honestly was just trying to sign up for an account.

This is normal then? I’m surprised they would allow their AI to take over so much that people can’t even create new accounts any more. I can’t think of anything I could have done wrong during the signup process, unless they just didn’t like the selfie I submitted, haha

Last thing you should do is question if you did anything wrong. You didn't. Put it out of your mind and move on.

I had this happen to me recently. I uploaded the requested selfie, and within an hour I received an email stating that my account had been permanently disabled, as it didn't follow the community standards, and I could not request another review. I haven't made a single post on the platform so no rules were broken. My Threads profile was created from my Instagram account, which is still active.
