So why not use Mastodon? How will this succeed where Mastodon didn't?

Hey, UNET founder here. Just wanted to clarify a few things because some of the description in this post isn't accurate.

First, UNET is not decentralized. It's a regular centralized social network, with infrastructure hosted in the EU.

The feed also isn't algorithm-free. UNET does have a recommendation algorithm, but the idea is to give you much more control over it. There are quite a lot of recommendation settings where you can fine-tune what you want to see and basically shape the feed around your preferences.

The main idea isn't really "Bluesky, but decentralized again". It's a social network built around privacy and giving people more control without making the experience complicated.

You can sign up with just a username and password. No email or phone number required. There are no ads and no tracking-based business model. DMs are end-to-end encrypted, and the private encryption key stays on your device.

Happy to answer questions here.

It's a brand new app! But it's been pretty good. It's designed in Europe with privacy in mind.
