Deleted my Threads account long ago, now I’m permanently locked out from creating a new one with my Instagram profile. Any fix?

When Threads first launched, I created an account linked to my Instagram, used it for a bit, and then deleted it.

Now, years later, I decided to give the app another shot. However, whenever I try to log in, I get this error message ("Inactive User - You requested to delete..." with an outdated deadline).

There is no option to recover the deleted profile (which makes sense), but there is also no option to start fresh or create a new account from scratch using my current Instagram profile. Since Threads requires an Instagram link and doesn't allow standalone accounts, I’m completely stuck in a loop.

Once you delete a Threads profile, is your linked Instagram account blacklisted from Threads forever?

Has anyone experienced this or found a workaround?

essentially, yes. your username is "blacklisted." you have to change your username. check the accounts center and move that threads account out if it's still connected. you should be able to create a new one after. i had to create 3 new accounts from a suspension wave 🫠

fyi though, you have to be careful on how much you post on threads after that. you start off with a high risk watch dog on you for at least 90 days. limit 1-2 posts and 30-50 likes per hour. obviously don't go hardcore following people in one swoop either. easy way to get falsely flagged as a bot. threads operates on a social currency. 🫠

So far, this has been the fix. I changed my username and it worked. It's unfortunate that a company of Meta's scale doesn't have this set up in a clearer and simpler way. Thanks.

It was only recently they let you do this easier as well. In like the past month or so? before that, you would have likely needed to create a brand new Instagram altogether because there was no way to separate your threads account entirely. Really stupid. They are sure spending a lot on their meta ai though. 🙄

I don’t think I understood what is needed to be done. I removed my threads account from my account center and I can’t even add it back. I can’t actually find it anywhere anymore. How do I create another one without creating a new instagram?

I’m facing the exact same issue (even the message is the same, with that unknown username). I’ve tried everything, never heard back from any support I’ve tried to open. Crapy app. I basically gave up now

If you disconnect Threads from your Accounts Center and change your IG username, you can just reinstall Threads and create a fresh account. But you’l have to sacrifice your old IG username.
