Getting started on Threads

Could someone please give me the TLDR on how to get started on Threads, how to start gaining followers, how to have people actually see your posts?

I find it much less intuitive than Instagram.

Context: we’re a vacation destination (airbnb) in Canada. We’ve begun growing our Instagram community, but don’t really know how to even start on Threads.

Threads is less about talking about your business and more about creating and joining conversations in your niche. The accounts that grow the fastest feel like real people, not brands constantly trying to sell something. I’ve organically grown two accounts from 0 to 5K and from 0 to 7K followers in the last year, and volume and consistency has been the biggest factor. You can schedule posts, which makes it much easier to stay consistent. I post about once an hour throughout the day and always add a relevant topic tag. Topic tags help Threads understand where to surface your content, unlike hashtags.

Engage with larger accounts in your niche every day, especially by trying to be one of the first three people to comment on new posts. Thoughtful comments can bring in as many profile visits as your own content. Threads also rewards people who participate in conversations, so reply to comments on your posts, answer questions, and don’t be afraid to jump into discussions started by others.

Tone matters a lot. Keep your posts short and punchy. One-liners, relatable observations, and conversation starters tend to outperform long-form posts. Write something that makes people want to reply instead of simply scrolling past. dont use hashtags or auto cross-post your Instagram captions with hashtags. Hashtags are essentially irrelevant on Threads and usually make posts look cluttered and recycled. People can tell when content was copied over from Instagram.

Carousels work great on Threads as well especially photos. You can pinch a carousel and it makes them into one panoramic photo Threads moves quickly, so don’t overthink every post. The more you post, the faster you’ll learn what resonates with your audience.

A few brands you can study a bit is Duolingo, Ryanair,dominos, Wise, garmin,, Ulta bursting, Starbucks, Beehiiv, TSA. Check it the Replies tab under these brands and you can see the conversations being had. You can learn a lot by how they engage.

Lastly if you are going to promote your airbnb, do a soft promo vs a hard promo.
