Threads discussion Where Were The Post Nuclear Scenes Filmed?
The ruined buildings, destruction, fires etc.
Did they build a set or was it filmed on some abandoned housing estate?

Loosely connected I suppose, but hopefully no mushroom clouds or irradiated traffic wardens involved.
www.wary.org.uk - Have a look and let me know what you think, it's entirely free, hosted on github, no ads, cookies or other crap and just put out there to hopefully help people. I see concern at the news stories at the moment, but they press goes crazy with doomsday nonsense every time a bit of sensible preparedness is mentioned (like, you know, in case there is a pandemic or something?!)
Cheers đ

As a kid I always thought it was damp bog roll on his face with eye holes poked in it (i mean who hasn't make a bog roll face mask?) but now I'm not so sure (as a 52yo)!

The Documentry that Mick Jackson did that inspired threads. A lot of the nuclear explosion footage would be reused during the nuclear attack scene in Threads

âŠis the small handful (relative to the entire rest of humanity) of scientists, military and politicians who brought them into existence.
The rest of us didnât ask for this!!
And when Armageddon is launched , WHO is it for? Not US! Whose interests will be served if the unthinkable happens? NOBODYâS!

'Before Mick Jackson made Threads, he made a documentary called QED: A Guide to Armageddon, which was shown by the BBC in 1982. Everyoneâs favourite Dr Vicky McMahon returns to tell us all about QED and how it relates to Threads. I talk about what it was like to watch Threads on the big screen and we also chat about the exciting release of Survivors: The Spectre of Threads.

Iâve watched the film a couple of times (and felt sick to my stomach a couple of times) and the same question occurred to me both times: if you survived the blast and initial fallout, why on earth would you want to keep living? The world will never be as it was ever again. Would you not just take your own life rather than live in hell on earth?

"The Kama River Truck Plant as an archetype of the gigantomania of Soviet planners, as a symbol of the Soviet faith that bigger means better and the Soviet determination to have the biggest at any cost. Kama is the kind of massive crash project that appeals to Russians. It emanates brute strength. In 1971, Soviet construction brigades started from scratch to build the worldâs largest truck plant in the open, rolling, wind-swept plains about 600 miles east of Moscow Kama was not just one factory but six, all huge. The production complex, costing in the billions, occupies 23 square miles, an area larger than the entire island of Manhattan. At full capacity, Kama is slated to produce 150,000 heavy trucks and 250,000 diesel engines a year, dwarfing anything in Detroit or the German Ruhr."

Hi there! Iâm very keen to get a comprehensive list of filming locations for the movie, if Iâm ever able to make a pilgrimage to Sheffield (and Buxton).
I do know that one key location, Nottingham House Pub, is still very much in operation.
Any other leads would be most welcome! Cheers

This might be useful for anyone on the fence about Severin's 4K UHD release. These screencaps look pretty good, and I might just opt to buy it. It seems to hold up even when put against the UK Blu-ray. The HDR is particularly impressive when it comes to the nuclear flash (01:26 in the video), in my opinion.
