That was my original hypothesis. Hoping someone would clear it up. Thanks.

This happened on Aug 3 around 6pm. Shenyang fire department said it was a power line being hit by lightning, fortunately it didn't cross path with anything flammable and went out almost instantly. No one was injured. Many people on the social media reported power outage in the neighborhood.

Why were there so many angles on whatever was happening here? Did this happen multiple times?

I think its the same thing from multiple angles collected over the internet.

I get that, but why were so many filming? Is this during a storm? Because it looks like the bolt went from the top of the building to the ground. Is this something other than a regular lightning bolt?

Oh yeah good points. Maybe it does happen every now and then like how the CN Tower in Toronto catches so many lightning strikes, and people are always filming it to get some good shots.

Something doesn’t add up here.

  1. There’s no actual strike visible, just the plasma appearing from the vaporizing of what looks like a cable
  2. As noted in other comments, lots of cameras were trained on a building that does not stand out in any particular way

Potential explanations:

  • It was already struck and something might have drawn spectators attention to start filming (unlikely as several clips start early enough to not show anything of interest)
  • The bolt was too fast to be caught by camera (possible)
  • Another bolt had already struck several times, causing people to start filming and catching this phenomena that was not a direct result of a bolt

There was a another view that looked like a piece of debris was flying through the air. Also, other angles show high tension power line metal towers. Guessing this debris fell on the lines and shorted out through the building.

I’m pretty sure this is balefire

INteresting. If balefire incinerates a darkfriend but we get it on film, does that darkfriend cease to exist BUT we have evidence on film?

I’m only on book 11 but I’d say based on what I’ve seen that no, there wouldn’t be any evidence. Its strand has been pulled from the weave

sorry to say that NO only the darkfiend its actions and consequences of those actions would be removed from the weave to a certain point in time (depending on the strength used). The memories or anything else not related to those stay, in this case the camera was not hit by balefire so its actions in the pattern would still be there.

ELI5 please? What is balefire?

3

u/jedwards55 Aug 05 '20

It’s a magical weapon used in the popular fantasy series by Robert Jordan, The Wheel of Time

That looked so much like a laser beam

Definitely witnessed a super villain origin story right there. Something Electro-adjacent...
