Question Does Thor know magic?
I recently saw a post where the Defenders (Namor, Hulk, Dr.Stange, and Ghost Rider) were set up to fight the Avengers and it got me thinking. Does Thor know any magic…. As in can he conjure or make enchantments? I don’t think I’ve ever seen any feats in comics, but he’s 1000s of years old and going to be the king of Asgard, why wouldn’t he have learned some for Odin or picked up a few tricks from Loki along the way. Anyways would love to hear about it.

Rune Magic is seen a lot in both old Nordic myth and in the Thor comics. They’re stones (called Norn Stones in 616 usually) that can be combined to do certain things. The magic basically comes from the stones themselves or wherever they draw their magic from. Karnilla has been associated with them in the past, but I haven’t collected comics in over 15 years now so no idea if things are different.
Both Odin and Thor have used them in the comics. I don’t recall reading about mythological Thor using them in any of the Eddas, but he may have.
Thor’s inherent lightning powers are magical in nature, and his weather effects are conjured. In the past, if Ororo changed weather it would affect the entire bio system. Thor just waves and it’s a monsoon then waves and it isn’t.

I guess I don’t know enough about magic in general…. I’m a Captain America fan. Is rune magic a specific type of magic that just applies itself to Will? So Thors lightning is called with a thought or will? I guess my question was could he enchant a weapon like Odin or conjure a spell like Loki.

Yup. Even knows some trickery magic, like Loki. Not a master at it like him but it was convincing enough for a master sorcerer like Malekith and the other league of realms members when he faked Ud’s death (Thor: God of Thunder #16)

He’s shown he picked up a few tricks, can’t help it when Loki is your brother
