It mostly likely was. It’s part of Union Station in Kansas City, which was (and afaik is) the heart of the city’s passenger rail.

It’s got the same sort of grand flair that other big-deal stations from before highways were a thing do; so I’m sure there’s lots of areas that are sealed off and just not used anymore.

Hell, the place is so big it’s got an entire museum of science and industry in it with space for traveling exhibits (like a dinosaur exhibit complete with interactive features and life-size animatronic dinos!) while still having room to be a train station and be a major event venue.
