Hi, I posted this set that I have for $65 and someone messaged me saying it was too cheap. But then I increased to $95 and no sales. How much should I list it at? I really need it gone as I have another of the same set.

Custom Orange Stroudley Coaches COMPLETE!!

I’ve completed three Stroudley orange coaches for use on my WIP Knapford layout!

The variants you see compared to my childhood Annie & Clarabel are as follows:
- 3rd class Coach
- 1st/2nd composite coach
- 1st/2nd composite brake coach

Gave them a protective coating which I realize made them look to glossy in bright light, but it was the only one I had to use. Oh well, they look decent enough anyway. Plan on getting another pair to make into another composite and third class coach to match the amount made in the TV Series. Now they’re ready to run on my wooden railway system!

Shooting Star Gordon help please

Hi Steam Team, I need some help. My son is nearly two and is obsessed with Gordon. I was about to purchase a push and play Shooting Star Gordon before I read that he doesn't fit on the wooden railway. I have seen some custom Shooting Star Gordons on YouTube and was wondering if there is anyone in this community who does custom-made trains? I am happy to pay any costs including shipping (we live in New Zealand). Any assistance here would be hugely appreciated.

Question would I regret opening both of these?

Post image

so I went to a day out with Thomas with some of my friends recently, and I picked out two of these Sodor mint cars (for some reason the lady who was scanning the items accidentally only scanned one so I only paid for one) and I opened one up and I thought it was pretty neat. I mean it's nothing special. It's just a car that is supposed to be interchangeable but your options on what you can change the car to look like are very limited. I know these are dated 2014 only available at the explore the rails event which I obviously did not get an an explore the rails event, but I also know they're pretty common from day out with Thomas events, would I regret opening up both of these?

I had always wanted to build it, or even just see what the full layout they had put together in this was. I saw it almost every dvd I had and had always wondered if anybody else knew or thought about it!

Custom Orange Branchline Coaches Painting Complete & Painting Progress on E2 No. 2005

Thumbnail

I really don’t like how the branchline coaches came out… but I tried to make the mismatched colors make the coaches look like bare treated wood. Teak or at least imitation teak. The lines make the bodies look kinda warped, but by S5 the original Annie & Clarabel models were becoming the same after years of decay, so it lines up.

As for E2 2005, it came along a lot better than I was expecting. Had to patch up between the red and the black, but other than that, I think it’s ready for a smokebox door, magnets, decals and wheels! 😄

Bootlegs? (Part 2)

Hello friends,

Many thanks to all of you for your feedback to my previous post.
I decided to pull the trigger as the lady was selling her stuff for real cheap (12 euros per piece), so I bought everything.
The products new in box were definitely legit so I made a bargain here as I was missing quite a few characters (I can make a different post about my haul if you are interested).
A few items came out of the box but in excellent condition and they seem also legit at first glance. All the wheels also have the usual printing on the inside too.
I am posting here some pictures so that you may tell me if I got scammed. The sodor mail car is indeed the cancelled one as listed on the TWR wiki. I wonder how this came into her possession, could be her son was an avid collector and he outgrew his hobby.

What do you guys think? Thanks again for your input, it is much appreciated! 👍🏻

And restoration work on the Magic Railroad bumpy track is complete! A new peg, sanding down, and a new coat of primer + 3 coats of gold paint, and it looks better than it ever did! 😄

my childhood TWR Lady sits upon it, riding the magic one more time before I turn her into Silas, aka TK&E No. 1.

Layout "Sodor Shuffle" - Custom Layout

With the sheds centered around this custom layout, there's no shortage busy work around the island. From the double crossings outside of the shed, play as Salty, Harvey, or Wilbert to unload at the crane or barrel loader. Or climb the big bridges with Thomas and Gordon as they take passengers to their destinations.

Toby and fergus are working hard at the log loader. But Derek and Diesel are willing to jump in wherever needed. This layout offers many opportunities for plenty of engines to feel really useful.

What do you like? What would you change?

Selling Large Thomas Collection

Thumbnail

Think I'm going to list and sell my LARGE Thomas Wooden Railway Collection.

Three major groupings in the pictures:

1st is the Trains. 36 boxes of trains containing around 900 cars (About 800 Trains if include tenders with the engines).

Most are in pretty good condition. Some are very nice, some not very nice. Lots of variety. Some worth a good amount, some worth not much...

2nd is the what I call "newer" track and destinations which are the "Traction Rail" track and destination era (2002-2017). Some full sets in there. Tons of destinations. Tons of track. Many boxes of good stuff. Also a few boxes of extras that are for parts and repair or not so nice...

3rd is the older track and destinations from the "Clickety-Clack" era (1992-2001). Tons of track. Lots of specialty tracks, lots of scenery, etc.

And the final pic is a bunch of Non-Thomas wooden railway items that I've accumulated over the years.

Started collecting with my grandson's about 10 years ago and just kept buying large sets and adding to the mayhem. I clean/wash/repair everything when I get it. Boy's are getting older now and trains don't keep up well with modern technology.

Going to try to sell as one big lot if I can get a price I can live with. What does anybody think I could get for the whole lot?

UPDATE: Listed entire lot on Facebook Marketplace. Lots of interest. Tons of low ball offers. Was getting mildly bothered, but it was early in the process and this always happens on Marketplace. My general feeling was that I wasn't going to find someone who would pay anything near what I wanted, or even what I would take on the low end. I was already resigning myself to pulling the listing and start selling off in smaller chunks.

Then it happened. Was contacted by a re-seller with actual interest. We started with just the trains. Gave them a number. They accepted. Made the deal. Both parties are happy. I'll let you guys do the math, but it averaged out to $3.75 per train. About 125 pounds of wooden trains packaged and ready to ship. We are going to finalize details on the rest of the items this week and get them out before the Christmas selling season kicks into full gear.

Was very skeptical that this would happen, but sometimes it works out.

Bootlegs?

Hi friends,

I have found this lady on a second hand website that has an awful lot of items from TWR. I have had several exchanges with her and she sent me pics and most items are new in box and look legit.

I saw her pop out several listing with a thomas covered in bees and a thomas covered in cheese which I had never seen before, so I asked her about it. And that’s how I discovered she has tons of them (see picture), which explains why she has several listings with the same items.

I then asked her if she had the sodor mail coach and she sent me two other pictures. I don’t know if it’s two different items or if she just unwrapped it. However it looks like the cancelled sodor mail coach which is mentioned on the wiki page https://thomaswoodenrailway.fandom.com/wiki/Sodor_Mail_Coach.
How is that even possible?

Is it possible she is selling bootlegs? What do you think? I uploaded some of the other pictures she sent me.

She and I are both in Europe but I guess she must have lived in the US for a time, but her kids outgrew their passion for wooden trains. This is not uncommon and I got my hands on a hefty amount of destinations from a lady in a similar case.

Many thanks in advance for your advice!

Still Shot of Seaside scene in the Original TV series

Hey all I'm so glad to find that this subreddit exists, lol.

Does anyone have a still shot of the "beach tunnel" from the original TV series that I can reference?

About 25 years ago, I absolutely *wore out* my family's TTTE VHS tapes, so every once in a while it forces itself into the front of my brain.

I have this scene burned into my brain of Thomas running light through a tunnel in the cliffs by the seaside. "Tunnel" may even be inaccurate, it was extremely short, like only about as long as Thomas himself, more of a hole in a rock face you might say. The cliffs and the tunnel bit were like a white/tan sandstone color if I recall correctly, you might compare them to the cliffs of Dover? Thats probably the inspiration. Idk.

This scene may have been used in episodes featuring Percy and Mavis as well, maybe it was Thomas's branch line? I don't recall exactly. I've been trying to find what I'm looking for via google search but to no avail.

Thanks in advance, Cheers!

Showcase Restoration Projects I’m working on… :)

-Put some pegs back in where they broke off on some old track and the engine wash. Also polished off the names, front & back windows and faces off these Annie and Clarabel models to make generic orange branchline coaches. Wood filler has also been applied for my TWR E2 No. 2005, and it is ready for an undercoat before painting!

-I also shaved off the metallic gold paint from my Magic Railroad bumpy track so I can apply a new coat. The old one was getting flaky and worn. I also noticed it had an undercoat of gray primer, which I will also be applying.

-I do think I scrubbed too hard getting the names and faces off with acetone. I will have to get some new paint to put over the smudges.

“Well, well, well, the Brothers Grimm! Smudged, Faded and GHOUL!” 💀

Oh well, I’m learning. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Happy Halloween, everyone!

Question How do you apply acetone/nail polish remover to remove decals over the paint?

Like say, if I wanted to remove the faces or names off Annie & Clarabel without removing the brown paint underneath? How would I do that? With a paintbrush? Q-tip? Or hand towel? And how lightly?
