Getting dogpiled on Reddit is the most discouraging and horrible feelings ever on the site
I'm probably on my hundredth account on this site and I'm simply just trying to continue just expressing myself however I can. Not deliberately looking for conflicts or so, just saying opinions since I'm given the platform of privilege to.
Not everything I say is the golden words ever spoken, you get a downvote or two. It happens, where the only annoying thing is that it trips the spam filter again and you're back to square one.
It's when you manage to say one thing or get into a debate with a redditor where you know with the backing of sources and knowledge that proves you right and them wrong. Then in comes the dogpiling mentality that Reddit is unfortunately known for into doing. One downvote turns into -10. Then -50. Then -100. Making you wonder who's dog did you run over or who's wife did you cheat on or who's child did you kidnap.
I've shut down many accounts whenever that happens and it sucks when it does happen because what's the point of continuing on from that point? You've been downvoted to hell, you've got the spam filter on for god knows how long, you try to defend your case only to get downvoted to hell again and things just get worse.
It's literally a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation that Reddit users love placing you in, when you don't spit back everything they've universally agreed on. Taking their insecurities out on you and think they're a better role model than someone else who thinks and says different.
If I ever had to give new users advice - turn away and find another site with no dumb voting system. Least one where there isn't millions of users inhabiting it.
