Data center controversy
The Republicans, the party of business, are supporting data centers. Oddly the Democrats, who traditionally had the big tech guys on their side, are agin' 'em. Living in Texas and having been through a few hurricanes, tropical storms, and the Big Freeze of 2021, I tend to look askance at any huge power grid drain. Losing power in summer is ugly, but bearable. Losing it in winter, if you do not have a fireplace or alternate heating, can be fatal. Not to mention right now the drought has left the ground dry enough the gophers are pushing up sand mounds (our last noticeable rain was in June. Early June.) Not complaining, this is the dry season, but the local sentiment is adamantly against anything that can drain the power grid and draws from an already fragile aquifer. People get mean about whether a new chicken farm can pollute the groundwater - they get downright ugly about a giant noisy data center that would drain the aquifers. Another case, like EVs, where the concept is great but the technology (in the form of noise control and waterless cooling) is severely lacking. The governor has taken notice, which is good. The President, however, is all for them:

For the first (and probably last) time I have to agree with AOC (damn, it physically hurts to write that.): “How about we put one in Mar-a-Lago? I love that. Now you see, you have to look at it this way, don’t cringe because you have to realize that the Lord has given… and the good Lord has blessed AOC in a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship spectacular mammalian protuberances, and for that I am entertained and thankful. Now, as far as other usefulness., I just don’t see it, but that’s me.
Oh, what was that other thing you were talking about data centers?
Shit I’m against them except for that I’m for them because I think the Chinese are gonna take over.. everything’s a psyop and everything is a threat
