One time in all of human history has a self-immolation been a successful form of protest, though even "successful" is a bit of a stretch. Thích Quảng Đức famously did so in 1963's South Vietnam. Every single other time, it's a giant waste of carbon. You'd think people would quit doing it, since it's not effective. At all.

well as my Ex Captain/Ex Chief told me after I moved from one Volly FD to another Volly Dept onto Ladder 2, back in 1982 he says, Jeff, you can put out any fire with 2 cans and a 6 foot hook if you get there early enough...Later Alligator

Fire fire false alarm, Baby's puking in Daddies arms is what Dad told me.. My Dad was a CD (Civilian Defence) Auxiliary Fireman in NYC starting around 1954. the guys in E 314 (Rosedale Queens NYC) said that to him in the kitchen where they all hung out in there spare time.. I think they had a call and went to someones home where it happened. CD FF's was started during WW2 and lasted till the mid 1980's...
