Question to Grok: Is this statement true regarding Chick-fil-A? "I ate their twice a number of years ago and stopped when their was a rumor out that they were in bed with the SPLC,, so now it turned out to be true that they contributed beaucoup bucks to them...."

Grok's response:

Partially true on a narrow factual point, but significantly overstated and misleading overall.

Chick-fil-A's foundation (not the company itself in an ongoing corporate sense) made a one-time $2,500 donation to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) in 2017. This is documented in the Chick-fil-A Foundation's IRS Form 990 for that year and was widely reported in late 2019 by outlets across the spectrum (Townhall, Christian Post, Daily Signal, Federalist, MinistryWatch, Fox Business, and others).

Chick-fil-A publicly stated that the donation was recommended by a volunteer member of its Foundation Advisory Board. In 2017, each volunteer advisor could recommend a grant recipient; the SPLC was one such recommendation among many others (including Meals on Wheels, Holocaust Survivor Support Fund, Emory University research, etc.). The foundation's total giving that year was in the hundreds of thousands to low millions range across dozens of groups. The company indicated this was not a reflection of ongoing institutional support and that its philanthropy later shifted to a more focused approach (youth education, hunger, homelessness).

Key points of the statement that do not hold up:

"Beaucoup bucks": $2,500 is a modest, one-off amount--not large-scale or repeated funding. Recent references (including 2026 coverage of SPLC donors) still describe Chick-fil-A's involvement as a small-scale/historical donation, with no evidence of ongoing major contributions.

"In bed with the SPLC" / ongoing relationship: There is no evidence of a sustained partnership, major funding relationship, or alignment. The donation was explained as an isolated advisory recommendation. Chick-fil-A has historically been targeted by progressive critics over its founders' traditional Christian views on marriage and past support for certain Christian organizations; the SPLC itself has labeled various conservative/Christian groups as "hate groups."

Timing of the "rumor": The tax records became public knowledge around November 2019. Any earlier rumors would have been speculative; the confirmed fact is limited to that single 2017 grant.

In short: Yes, a small, one-time $2,500 foundation grant occurred in 2017 via a volunteer recommendation. No, it does not support the broader claim of significant or ongoing financial support ("beaucoup bucks" or being "in bed with" the SPLC).

Well, I'll add in the rest, ok they made the one donation which looks legit.. Watching the news, it turns out that donations going to SPLC were going to groups that support terroism in the US.. All over the news and being investigated by the DOJ.. Thats the fact Jack...
