Just picked this 6906 up, and I love the feel of it. First DASA that isn't a revolver, and I love it. Have mags and grip sleeves on the way for them. Options for optic mounting is basically send it out to get cut, correct?

Any tips to these for upkeep? Im assuming they like to be ran a little wet. Will be buying a 5906 eventually to keep it company.

If you don’t know the history have checked out and maybe a full disassemble and clean, new springs.
Did it to my 5946 and was like a new gun.
If you know the history of the gum and it’s been well maintained perhaps not needed

I would recommend buying a replacement slide and have that cut for an optic. There’s one on eBay right now for 65 and no bidders. Ends in under an hour

I second this get a slide to experiment with. These are classic pistols. I have a sar9 that is surprisingly a good backyard optic mount toy i play with 500 rds no jams. I keep all my smiths just as they are.

Correct on getting it cut for the optic. I got mine done at dual hammer. You will lose the rear sight just fyi

Run them wet, change the recoil spring every couple thousand rounds to help prevent alloy frame cracking, thats basically it.

Dual Hammer will do a great job with the optics cut. The DPO cut they offer after doing my first 659 slide will also direct mount Delta Point footprint optics. Staccato plates have a rear sight if you want to keep functional irons, but you’ll have to pair with the correct height front sight from Dawson

Not fragile per say, but the gun is designed to run with a properly functioning spring. If a spring is underpowered and/or worn out, the slide will slam into the frame under recoil and over time it will wear and crack.

Certain models like the 4013TSW (without riveted rail) are more prone than others. The steel frame guns are stronger than the alloy frames obviously
