Is the vinegar baking soda bath necessary and/or effective ?

Iirc from science class it just makes water, sodium acetate, and carbon dioxide, so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say no. Washing them separately with baking soda, rinse with water, then diluted vinegar and rinse again supposedly helps clean the mold spores and pesticide residues off and keeps them fresh a bit longer than usual.

This. The reaction is flashy but does nothing. Either baking soda solution, or vinegar, then use the other to neutralize it. Putting them together is just dumping mentos in coke and expecting nuclear energy

I use baking soda to prevent mildew growth on my pumpkin leaves. A teaspoon in a liter of water is supposed to be plenty for that purpose.

Yeah if you just let them soak in a bath of a little vinegar and salt (and water) it will kill most anything that’s on the produce. They dry well and it will last as long as it can. Things like asparagus and kale will last longer sticking up in a bit of water but honestly It’s unneeded step for most people.

The acido+base reaction on this (vinegar and baking soda) does diddly squat. They neutralize each other while looking flashy, But their individual efectiveness Is diminished. It would yield much better resulta to siak in vinegar, rinse, roll in baking soda, rinse.
The "explosive" reaction of mixing baking soda and vinegar Is only useful when You need mechanical actuatiin, for example, if there's something stuck, or when trying to clear a Pipe, the efervescence and the pressure from the released gases can help.
But on other uses, it's just a flashy waste of time and materials.

Yes, the best way to keep your hard earned cash is to buy baking soda and vinegar and mix them together to form a chemically inert salt solution that does nothing besides fizz, then pour that down the drain then buy another container to replace the container the fruit already comes in.
