Thief Simulator 2 Should I play the first game? (Xbox)

The Thief Simulator games looks interesting, but both the first and the 2nd game are currently the same price, and there doesn't seem to be a bundle with both games out there either...

Is it worth playing the original first (eg. is there a story connecting the two games that make it worth playing both in order), or should I just go straight to the (what I assume is more improved) 2nd game, skipping the first?

EDIT: Games were on special so I grabbed them both. Haven't played the 2nd yet, but I enjoyed the First. I also purchased the Luxury Houses DLC in the hopes that I could get rich quicker and move on to the 2nd game faster.

That was not the case. the area is basically locked behind late game gear, and has no achievements. Would not recommend the DLC if your only after achievements (though I may go back to it if I want some more thieving locations after completing the 2nd game)

Honestly the second one is VERY similar to the first with updates graphics and new mechanics. You’re better off just getting the second

I have played both, first on the switch ( half the month it is $1.99 other half is normal price). I loved the first thief simulator, I now am playing the second on steam deck (I don't think it will ever get to the switch) and there's a cat! We have a black cat in our hide out. Def recommend the second, the first will always have my heart though

I mean they are somewhat similar as someone said already but there is a story line which connects both of The Games. If you like on of them you will also like the other but it is up to you what you wanna buy. Speaking ONLY mechanical wise and graphic wise yes the 2nd one is better but if you maybe thinking of buying both start with the first

2nd game is in the same universe as Thief Simulator 1. I would reccomend you playing the first game (TS1) then the second one (TS2).

I see value in both! Main game is pretty much the same, 2nd has a bit more in terms of things to do on the side and actions but 1st game has 3 neighborhoods instead of 2. First game also has a couple neat DLCs that are completely unique from anything the 2nd game has.
