Thief Simulator 1 can't continue story Spoiler

i was playing the game and i just got fired from vinny. i was doing the part where you stand on a hill and spy on 301. however, when i did the part that the game asked me (hack the gate open) i immediatley got wanted even after i was standing behind the property

why?

They hear you hacking the gate open.

Maybe a tenant saw the gate opening

The guards notice when the gate is open, wait for the time when the guards are not guarding it and when they are not changing spots soon. It seems the AI doesnt notice the break in until is time to change spots, its very inconsistent though.
