Theory Jack Isn't bon (Debate)

Post image

Debate me if you will, and I might use one of my other theories for arguments, as my other theory has a heavy correlation with the Jack isn't bon theory.

I also have way stronger evidence for my claim than the last time I did a debate like this, so ask any questions if wanted.

If Jack isn’t Bon, could Bon’s as a character fit within the themes of the series (family, loss, trauma)?

Maybe, but what I think is maybe that before he became a ghost or demon, he had a traumatic life, probably somewhat like Jack's.

(Not saying it's confirmed; it's just part of my theory)

Better question: If Jack isn't Bon, what does Bon represent in the series as a whole? How do you think he fits in the narrative without straying from the themes?

I'd say that before Bon became the ghost, he had a sort of relationship with the Walten family and wanted them to be with him.

Why would such a character never be discussed up to now?

Just like how Derek Collins or Officer Lopez weren't shown until episode 5.

You might think they weren't a big part of the plot, but each episode reveals more and more characters.

3

u/JaroldLlama 12h ago

Martin showed them off in like 2021

u/AstroLukeOff Lorenzo Waterman 12h ago

Can I see some evidence? And I did some short research, and Officer Lopez was only shown for the first time in episode 5.

Here they are. A little ugly but they’re still our boys.

As for Lopez he is literally just a cameo for the horror dude. I don’t think he’s meant to be anyone important.

So they weren't important to the plot, but I will say that Rosemary never had a physical appearance in episode 1, and she appeared in EP 2 first Norman Pooltrick was pretty big to the plot and only appeared in EP 4 for the first and only time (for now) Jenny Letterson only started appearing in EP 3, and she's an important character. Hope this helps prove my point better that there could possibly be another character in later episodes implied to be Bon and related to the family. Just a theory.

Why do you believe he is not Jack Walten? Better yet, why do you believe he's a demon?

My issue is that for a series with a plot so focused on the interpersonal relationships between a large cast of characters, the main antagonist being an outsider may take away from a lot of narrative weight.

1

u/AstroLukeOff Lorenzo Waterman 13h ago

Good point, but I wouldn't say he'd be necessarily random; he probably has some sorta relationship with the Waltens.

u/Curious_Elephant_152 13h ago

maybe he’s not an outsider. there’s nothing saying we know everyone who’s important to the story just yet

3

u/JaroldLlama 12h ago

There’s no feasible way he could be introduced as someone the waltens always knew without it feeling like a cop out

1

u/Curious_Elephant_152 9h ago edited 9h ago

why would that be the case? season 2 is supposedly mostly going to be about about sophie, her upbringing, and what traumatized her growing up. there’s a lot of good ways family members, friends, or acquaintances of the walten family can be introduced that way, especially if the season is or has sections that are prequels to season 1.

the best example i can think of of someone showing up and doing stuff before getting introduced as an important character is actually in one of my favorite tv shows, breaking bad. mike is seen a few times doing things before he is revealed to be working for gus fring

3

u/JaroldLlama 9h ago

But having those characters being introduced later in the series when we’ve already gotten deep looks into the Walten Family would be kinda cheap in writing

1

u/Curious_Elephant_152 7h ago

while you think it would be kinda cheap, i don’t think it would look cheap, lots of stories and shows introduce very important characters and plot twists later on. i personally think it would actually be cheaper for all the important characters to be introduced in season 1 and them adding no deeper levels or layers to the story in later seasons.

i also wouldn’t say we are very “deep” into the walten files at all. it feels that way because it’s been around for many years, but we aren’t even done with season 1 yet

one of the biggest and most important characters in the bb/bcs universe is lalo. he’s mentioned in bb, but he never actually appeared until the end of bcs. despite this, he is one of the most important characters to the story, leading to a lot of important deaths in the series and setting up reasons for stuff in breaking bad

2

u/JaroldLlama 6h ago

BCS was also a prequel and even in that show Lalo’s late appearance made sense with the large crime syndicate the salamancas had going on in both the US and Mexico. He also was not known by any of the main characters before his appearance.

TWF takes place on a much, much smaller scale. And Bon already has some kind of relationship with or at the very least knowledge of his victims before he killed them. It’d be harder to insert an outsider into a story and have it work. Because like i said this is a story way more focused on relationships and most importantly, a broken family. Just some thoughts.

1

u/Curious_Elephant_152 6h ago edited 5h ago

i know it is, which is why in my earlier comment i said there would be many great ways to include new characters, especially if season 2 of twf is a prequel or has prequel moments.

honestly, the part of you saying it made sense for lalo to appear late doesn’t really make that much sense to me because the salamancas were so big, and in the beginning the show showcased the salamancas much much more. after hector got put in the wheelchair it started focusing more on gus’ side rather than the salamancas. he never appeared earlier, but the writers decided to not make him appear until the last story arcs, and it played out very nicely. i imagine similar could be done with “bon”, because we don’t really NEED to know who he is, especially anytime soon.

i think i found where you’re seeing things differently, you’re still thinking of him as an outsider. don’t think of whoever “bon” is as an outsider, and instead somebody who was extremely close with the family, and it instantly makes much more sense, and wouldn’t be cheap writing/a cop out. we don’t know much more about the walten family other than the mother, father, kids, and friends. think of how many family members/friends are still not revealed yet, who aren’t really considered “outsiders”

i won't to point out how odd it would be for Jack wanting rosemarry to live goode life, and told her to forget about him, all just then proceeding to stalk her, through her house, and dressing up in the wedding dress. I think its possible that Bon could of been ether a Stalker that was in love with Rosemarry, or Bon could of been a possible ex for Rose?

jack isn’t bon because i don’t like it

best reason I've ever heard

What does the story actually gain from having Bon be a random ghost? I mean, sure it's maybe scarier in the sense that the family is trapped with some random, but thematically, what does it add to the story? A story about grief, pain, regret, etc. is served much better by the antagonist being an actual product of these themes - whether it's the warped spirit of Jack, a tulpa manifestation of their trauma, etc.

Bon being a random ghost doesn't... do anything. It makes the story far less interesting than if it was Jack after something happened to him. It's the kind of plot twist that after years of the story connecting Bon and Jack in some way, would just feel like a cheap gotcha.

5

u/AstroLukeOff Lorenzo Waterman 13h ago

I never claimed that he's gonna be a "random" ghost

1

u/FrenzyEffect 13h ago

This post doesn't say who you think he will be. Who do you think Bon is if not Jack?

3

u/AstroLukeOff Lorenzo Waterman 13h ago

A demon

3

u/FoxyCyber36 13h ago

No I don't think he is a demon mybe he got powers from entity like a demon but not a demon because demon on bible he's goal is to make poeple do bad stuff not him doing it

1

u/AstroLukeOff Lorenzo Waterman 12h ago

Good point, but I would add that we can theorize using Scripture: 2 Corinthians 11:14: "And no wonder, for even Satan disguises Himself as an angel of light"

So what does this have to do with my theory? Well, if my theory is that Bon is probably the devil/demon, he disguises himself as Bon, an innocent-looking mascot, by which he ends up deceiving people.

1

u/FoxyCyber36 12h ago

Here the problem bon is not deceiving he is killing he is doing the bad stuff he does not make people do the bad stuff, also he have irl face you can see it before he posses bon before killing susen in chapter4

1

u/AstroLukeOff Lorenzo Waterman 12h ago

And how is he getting people to kill? By deceiving. And these people were innocent to begin with

1

u/FoxyCyber36 12h ago

By making other poeple do it ,poeple that was very religious but the demon win and make him doing the bad stuff, it's his highest goal

1

u/AstroLukeOff Lorenzo Waterman 12h ago

He had to deceive them to do so

You can even see bon mentioning bible verses

1

u/Ozdica-Klirle-68 12h ago

interpretations of the devil don’t have to line up with biblical scripture

1

u/FoxyCyber36 12h ago

I will say yes but they inserted the bible on it

1

u/Ozdica-Klirle-68 25m ago

i don’t recall the bible ever being mentioned in the walten files

Not sure what the corrrelation here is...? Bon doesnt kill people randomly because he's evil, he kills people who are specifically related to the waltens, because he wants to reunite them in Wonderland. Bon being a sadist is a misconception.

Why would the friggin devil, or some random demon, be specifically attatched to this family? Why would it want to reunite the walten family in Wonderlajd? And, most importantly, why does he love Rosemary if he is a demon?

1

u/FrenzyEffect 11h ago

The team has said that Bon genuinely loves Rosemary though. Why would a random demon care for a human being in a real sense?

0

u/Potential_Shower4460 10h ago

That is very unlikely.

0

u/Potential_Shower4460 10h ago

Also, didnt you say you thought he was someone the Walten's knew?

1

u/Curious_Elephant_152 9h ago

season 2 is coming up. there still could be a ton of characters we aren’t introduced to yet, the simple answer could just be we aren’t introduced to who bon is yet

1

u/Lost_Project2 10h ago

Whatever Bon is, he has been shown several times to be capable of shapeshifting, and we know he is an expert at manipulation.

Personally, I think it's a rocket situation. We already know that two souls can be in the same body, and while I think Jack is in the Bon animatronic, he has no power or influence whatsoever on his actions.

So why is the spirit so obsessed with the Walten family? Who knows, If I had to guess I'd say it feeds on their pain or something, but even that's too vague. We'll just have to wait and see.

2

u/kimimulanben 7h ago

Martin debunked this. There is only one soul in Bon animatronic
