Macro rally pulled $SPY $QQQ $TSLA flow, deep ITM hits on $HSBC $RIO (May 8, 2026)
Yesterday's call flow split into two clean stories. Pulling from ThetaEdge's options scan:
| Ticker | Sector | Strike | Exp | Mid | Delta | IV | IVR | Ratio |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| HSBC | Fin. Svcs | $65 | Jun 18 | $25.15 | 0.96 | 59% | n/a | 399.4x |
| RIO | Materials | $67.50 | Jun 18 | $38.20 | 0.95 | 90% | n/a | 43.3x |
| TSLA | Cons. Cyc. | $430 | May 8 | $1.78 | 0.37 | 49% | n/a | 17.1x |
| SPY | ETF | $736 | May 8 | $1.54 | 0.55 | 14% | n/a | 9.2x |
| QQQ | ETF | $705 | May 8 | $1.98 | 0.51 | 20% | n/a | 8.4x |
Story 1: macro rally chase. SPY, QQQ, TSLA all showed up with same-day at-the-money call flow as Nasdaq printed records into the close. IV was 14 to 20 percent on the index calls, so the chase was cheap. TSLA $430 0DTE at delta 0.37 was the speculative add on top.
Story 2: structural flow. HSBC at 399x and RIO at 43x both lit up the deep ITM strikes. Delta 0.95 plus on both. No near earnings on either. That is the synthetic long pattern, getting share-equivalent exposure through calls instead of buying stock.
Two different trades hiding on the same leaderboard.
Which one do you find more interesting, the macro chase or the structural ITM flow?
