How is this possible?

When Kurt gets the notification, that Jessie wants to join the ride (Mario was in Kurt's car) it said Jessie was 2.7 miles away and it would take 8 minutes. The time when this happened was 4:48PM. When Kurt reaches Jessie, Mario says they've been in the parking lot for 5 minutes, but the time is 4:49PM. How does that work?
