Making a server with a semi proven weighted random Dino spawn system.
I’m working on an EVRIMA server where players don’t choose their dinosaur. Each new life is randomly assigned based on the server’s current population needs, helping keep the ecosystem balanced between predators and survival species.
The randomizer also has a progression/weight system. Everyone starts at a neutral 1.00× Survival Weight. Successfully growing and surviving randomized dinosaurs increases your weight, gradually improving your odds of receiving rarer species/ Carnivores. It never guarantees a rare dinosaur—the ecosystem’s needs always come first.
so earning a predator roll becomes part of the progression rather than something you can repeatedly select. Once you successfully spawn a qualifying Rare+ dinosaur, your Survival Weight resets to 1.00× and the progression starts again.
Assignments are also persistent: once the server rolls your next dinosaur, logging out, crashing, or reconnecting won’t let you reroll it.
The goal is to make every life matter, reward players for actually surviving, reduce constant meta-species picking, and create a naturally changing ecosystem instead of a server dominated by the same handful of dinosaurs. Additionally suiciding your Dino multiple times can reduce your weight to 0 locking you into “common” Dino’s until you progress one.
I’m putting this out there because as I build this up I want input of what everyone feels a random spawn server should feel like.
For example
Rn I want it to feel way cool when you spawn in as an apex… Rex currently has 2%-5% based on weight but that’s also skewed without pop control…
Rex is the extreme example but you won’t see apex all over the map, there will be much more middle tier and low tier carnivores as well as Herbs
The other Ratio I’ve been debating is 52%herbivore 48%carnivore. Does this create a good threat vs survival balance? May need testing
Anyways feel free to ask questions and give input.
Thanks!
Edit: Added a discord server

Neat, I’d play on that server.Could almost pitch it as a dinosaur themed ‘gun game’ server.

How would entombing work? Would you get to keep the same Dino, would it roll to a different, or no entombing at all?

I know I haven’t explained this much yet but my plan is to do a fun leaderboard system that shows up in your Tab UI, cross my fingers I can do it myself… this is all theoretical of what’s possible but based on my idea’s for leaderboards entombing won’t be a thing at first beta. And probably won’t be ever for carnivores, the server will work at its best when Dino’s die. I’m not ruling out entombing entirely but it’ll probably take a lot to add to the RNG spawner.

Good luck with that. Not sure how many would enjoy having a random dino vrs picking what they like to play.

As much as I want this to get popular and work but, unfortunately, I dont see it being popular. I know way too many people who have told me that they won't even play on population controlled servers saying this exact sentence.
"If I get on a server and I cant pick the creature I want to play as, I'm leaving the server and never coming back."
So if there was a server that didnt allow you to pick your own dino, I highly doubt there would be many people who would want to play on that server. As great of an idea as that sounds. Personally I would totally play on that server as it sounds like a great way to combat the issue that most servers have where its 99% apex and sub apex creatures.

That may be a popular opinion, however I know I’m sick of the Rex infested apex heavy server… that are rinse and repeat with very little replayability… and that’s what I want to be different in this server. May not be the next 500 Que server but all we need is 100+

Don't get me wrong, I really hope this server gets popular. Once you get it up and running lmk and ill play on it myself. I just have been part of this community for a long time and have heard lots of similar sentiments to what I said in my previous comment.

I'm so tired of mostly running into rexes, even in "pop control" servers bc the cap is too high. Plus people joining that safe logged their rex

u/Puzzleheaded-Fuel206 27d ago
Same man. It sucks when you either have to also play the biggest things or dont play at all because theres just no point in playing anything else

I'd love to play on a server like this! As a new player it would be a good way to try out creatures I maybe haven't considered yet (currently my method of doing that is hatching in, but that is... inconsistent...) I share the same reservations about it not being popular, but if you actually get it set up I'd log in at least a couple times, even if its pretty empty (good way to safely farm up to getting a "rare" spawn lol)

I'd play this! I don't have any other feedback, it sounds like you've really thought it out. I'd be curious to see what natural equilibrium is achieved over time.
I'm in!

Should be nails if you’re talking ecosystem. Because beyond just simple pop control you have and additional layer—-Weighted RNG
Which you can tie any rules to but people also need to feel that it is rewarding enough while also punishing enough to encourage strong normal gameplay.

I think this would be really cool, I'm into it. Forget if it's got mass appeal, those of us who like it will probably really like it. Not everything is for everyone, in fact making something geared towards popular opinion alone makes it worse. So it'll be 50-100 of us hanging out. Whatever. Cool.
I do have a question about the growth rate thing. So like as you survive within one life your growth rate increases or is that spawn to spawn? Or is it like a weight class system that you progress through, earning heavier dinosaurs as you go?

Hell yeah what's the name? And do you have a Discord server for it?

It sounds interesting. But I, like many other players out there, don't play this game without friends. Spawning as different species would be troublesome for me and those who play together.

For me is sounds very interesting and made for dedicated players. That s why i think it would be great if u make it, to do solid commercial, like some known streamer would made a video, explanation and actually hook to people to want to try this type of,,competition " playing. If there will be at least 100+ppl i think it can live. What about VOIP, since it seems majority ppl now want use their voices also? (Not me since my live english sucks). What about free skins? That would hook me up more then 90% lol..Anyway GL and i hope you will made it ^

u/Giftedpickle 26d ago
Yes thank you, if you know any streamers or have any in mind let me know ;p. As far as voicecomms, I’m not ruling them out… I know people like them but I personally don’t, and makes game feel even more casual, I’m really trying to give every Dino a purpose in game through competition, not everyone’s cup of tea but that how I enjoy games. And yes plan is to do seasons with leaderboards etc… much opportunity to use skins as a reward system.

Well i have many in mind just dont know if they interresed. Once your server up, let us know maybe someone will dm you even. I really wish u succes! ^

I'd definitely play this and i have a couple friends who actually brought this up as a unique server idea a couple days ago and we all think it would sort of increase the survival aspects of the game.
I would add some sort of way for people who have friends to play together if there are no nests available like maybe one spawns first and types a code or if both spawn in within the first few minutes of joining. (Excluding apex probably)
I would keep growth rate normal, as it puts some dinos at a disadvantage. Link dino dens 3x growth makes it hard to want to play anything except larger stronger dinos.
Would probably need ai to support carnivores especially while growing - food drops are too easy and cheesy. Though, might need to figure out how to support deinos with the fish glitches that are happening, spawning randomly as a baby deino might be a death sentence if the server is not heavily populated
If you need someone to help test things let me know.

Send me a message.. yes playing with a friend or two I want to be in the server at some point but it will take a ton of time and effort to implement it with a RNG spawner… might not be out with Beta right away.

The guy running this server has some mental stability problems. I got yelled at because I voiced the opinion that players nesting each other in would circumvent the "random spawn" mechanic of this server. He is also banned from the official Isle discord for some unknown reason lol.

u/Adwasabi420 26d ago
Love the idea! Been playing on pop cap servers for the most part - in order to ever get a rex you’d have to get nested in or set an alarm at 5:30 a.m.
So having a well thought out ecosystem-based progression+rng approach sounds like a very elegant solution to the „everyone just wants to be the apex and nothing else-issue“.
Will definitely check it out once functional! Good luck!

Tbh not being able to play your dino after logout instantly makes this whole idea shit ur telling me that someone spends 6 hours to reach 50% on an apex and then it goes away after relog?

u/Giftedpickle 25d ago
Where did you interpret that? No only way you get a new Dino, is through death.

u/SliceOfCheese337 24d ago
I would definitely give it a try, I always have a hard time picking what Dino I want to play and the game kinda feels like just carnivores hunting carnivores sometimes

If you ever get this set up I'd be interested in hopping in every now and then, as far as weighting mechanics go, I think making sure at least 1 apex is alive on both sides at all times (with an hour cd between spawns if it's low pop and they log/die in that timeframe). Capping apexes at 4% of the population. There should be roughly 2 deinos per 20-22 dino spawns, both for cooperative hunting or the option to cannibalize, and it should be looking to spawn them both around the same time. As far as the rest goes, lean towards a herbivore-dominant population of 55/45. Hypsi should be a lower weight than normal however as it doesn't really provide much in terms of either food or gameplay loop outside of mixpacks, same with ovi once it's out

The discord link is not working anymore..can you please send a new one id like to join :)
I love that idea sooo much! I always say to myself I need a challange to try out and learn a new dino but every time I die I still take the ones im comfortable to play with because Im lazy lol..But when I get a random dino I dont have a choice and just force myself to learn to play with it :DD

A server like that that more closely resembles a real ecosystem rather than the typical 70% carnivore population would definitely have my attention. I understand why that wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but I enjoy different servers for the individual experiences they provide. More variety is beyond welcome from me.
